Toy Story 3 is an animated sequel that I think pretty much everyone is anticipating (if you’re not, you’re dead inside…). The first one is my personal favorite, but on a purely technical animation level, the second is superior. It’s really the only Pixar story that warranted a sequel, simply because the characters are so great – likable, funny, charming, iconic and re-watchable. Seeing them in more films can only be a good thing.
Rumors went around for a while about a possible Toy Story 3 until it was officially announced, and with a little bit over a year away from its release date, it seems like things are moving pretty fast.
In a recent interview with Empire, Tom Hanks gave an update on the status of Toy Story 3 – specifically on his involvement so far. Here’s what he had to say:
“I have been in and done three big complete recording sessions and will probably have at least one more to do, possibly in about eight months. Then eight months after that I’ll do a mop-up and have three more sessions after that. Those movies are beasts.”
Hanks went on to give some pretty surprising and pretty neat info on what he (as well as Tim Allen and John Ratzenberger) has seen of the film’s development so far – it’s more than you might think… way more:
“They did an interesting thing on this one. They did not send us a script. They showed us a complete story reel of the entire movie, with storyboards moving from one to the next, and the people up at Pixar recorded some voices with some music and sound effects. Tim Allen and John Ratzenberger and I went in a movie theater, watched the reel and said, ‘This is great, let’s get to work!’”
Wow.
I’ve never heard of storyboards being presented as film in itself: CGI animatics combined with visual effects, music and dialog. They didn’t see a script but rather got to sit down and watch the entire movie in animated storyboard format?
Oh those lucky, lucky Hollywood people!
So clearly the folks at Pixar have a firm grasp on what they want to do with Toy Story 3 (as I believe they do with every film). The guys over there are the absolute best at what they do, and for that to be possible and remain the case, they have to be on the ball before the rest of us even know there is a ball. For example, I believe when Ratatouille was still in development, they had already started working on WALL-E… that’s how prepared they are as a studio.
The first two Toy Story movies are a couple of the most well received (both critically and by movie goers) animated movies ever made. They both hold 100% scores on Rotten Tomatoes – and adding to that the fact that combined they have made almost $850 million worldwide made another movie being added to the series almost inevitable.
This was the concept that introduced us all to the wonders of Pixar’s animation, and I have no doubt the third film will just be another piece of animation excellence to add to the list.
What are your thoughts on them making a third movie? Should they leave well enough alone or add to the adventures of Woody and Buzz?
Toy Story 3 is currently scheduled for a June 18th, 2010 release.

Oscar what are your favorite Pixar films,,,?
I like them all except Cars. My favorite has to be Toy Story 2, maybe Wall-E.
I knew this would be a bad day to buy a chainsaw. ;-P
i dont get it.
LOL oscar, that’s why I find it so funny, because he brings it upon himself, then he CRIES about it afterwards because, let’s face it, my come backs are ALWAYS 10 times as funny as his sorry attempt at condescending insults.
Ok, ok, at least I think they are funny… :’(
So glad you can’t see my tears,,,
I wasn’t the one that instigated this juvenile conversation Kim Jong. You saw it as an opportunity to lay your little insults and get attention,,,
So that’s what this site is for you, a stage to try out your material? You truly have the mentality of a child with personality issues…
so now your being racist?
Did I spell that wrong? Is this entire discussion based on sarcasm?
(Who can tell anymore)
“Kim Jong-Il” is a compliment Oscar!
How do you figure that’s racist?
“Kim Jong” is a very powerful dictator.
And that’s what I call Ken J when he steps into the comments trying to start wars and get attention.
Kim Jung also had a great role in Team America. If your old enough to rent it I can’t recommend it enough.
LOL, yep, you’re not at all the one who instigated anything with you insulting people who like animated movies. “Mindless” and grouping us with American Idol watchers, I’m sure you meant it as a compliment.
Try to hide it all you want, you’re obviously worked up over it since you’re resorting to racist comments, comments that are neither creative nor funny (I am actually disappointed about this part…). I’m sure if you were more calm you would think of something better. Give it time, it will come.
Ogb was funnier to mess with. I especially loved his “come back” to vic by saying that Vic’s argument is full of holes and he’s using his own arguments against him, lol, that was classic…
The illusion your trying to create that I’m upset and unstable is unoriginal even from you Kim jong. I love your attempts to turn this around when you know you started all this.
“Calm” that’s a good one! Me and my co-workers have been laughing all day at this dialog. Where I’m sitting, this is a fun debate ,,,
First you attack then you play the victim. Lol,,,
That’s Kim Jong!
Hey if your going to be a comedian you have to get used to the hecklers. You won’t have Oscar and sock puppet up there with you for support all the time.
Victim? LOL.
Oh yes, you are torturing me with entertainment.
Dude, trust me, I’m NEVER the victim, nor would I EVER say I am. Call me whatever you want man, I’m enjoying every minute of it, thanks.
The only way this could be better if you actually come up with something creative. Kim Jong, the Virginia Tech shooter, I’ve heard all of these lame attempts at racial humor before, but it’s still somewhat amusing just to see the person using them think he’s being creative. There was one pretty creative insult thrown at me the other day, but I’m not going to give the good stuff away for free you know…
Are you reading your replies before you contradict yourself. You’ve done it 3 times already.
Well at least we agree that this conversation is pretty funny. Your point of view is the funny part btw.
But I’m sticking with my kim Jong-il verbage. He also has a 45 Colt fetish. You have got to be related.
Yep, all of us Asians are related, don’t you know?
Anyway, I better stop before I get bitch slapped by Vic…
790 & Ken J
What the hell, guys – stop attacking each other and learn to get along. I don’t need this strife on the site.
Be civil to each other even if you disagree.
Vic
Until next time Kim Jong,,,
Sorry Vic, I was just joking around anyhow, didn’t completely expect him to take it so personally, but I guess even when it was apparent I didn’t exactly stop, haha, yah, sometimes I need to bite my tongue. But I was just trying to help him work his creativity muscles, I swear! j/k
I guess I shouldn’t sweat him too much when he tries to insult people who enjoy pixar movies, I kind of do that when the topic of anime comes up… Sorry about that anime fans.
Man I was reading through every comment and I forgot what this webpage was about. You guys are hilarious! And Oscar, Cars is the best animiation from Pixar. It has the best storyline.
My lawyers have told me not to comment further Darren.
I liked Cars too, it wasn’t the best by far but I definitely enjoyed it. But a lot of people consider it the worst one, probably because when the plot is suggesting that small towns might be better than big cities it insults a lot of people, lol. Oh well, grow thicker skin.
One of my favorites have to be The Incredibles because of the family values type message, and Finding Nemo was just charming with Dory. You can’t help but love her. And it just had such a spectrum of characters in it, it pretty much covers all of the bases.
I don’t that it might offend people but I think small towns are apt to carry alot more heritage and encourages to appreciate the little things in life. It made me to understand that.
Well, it’s all personal preference. Either you have a nice calm small town that’s great for raising children because it’s safe, everyone knows everyone and politeness and courtesy are important virtues, or you have a big city where you can go out and party every night, but nobody cares about courtesy, you’re more likely to get robbed, and less likely to be allowed to defend yourself (ironic huh?)
I settled for the middle-ground, suburbia, lol. If given a choice though, I’d prefer a small town over a big city any day of the week. My sister lives in Chicago. I’ve stayed there a few days on vacation. It sucks, the only thing to do there is drink because there are bars in every corner, and you have absolutely no individual rights because there are laws governing every little thing you do. Of course, the criminals don’t care, so they have free reign… Probably why crime rates are so insane over there. I wonder when the idiot government there would realize that they need to change their retarded policies.
I’ve stayed with friends in a small town in northern Florida and it was a blast. The only thing is you rely on your friends for your entertainment. But that’s fine with me, I always enjoy spending time with my friends more than anything else. I hate “clubbing” since I don’t drink and I think clubs are full of idiots that I have no interest in meeting anyhow. They have movie theaters in small towns but unfortunately limited release movies almost never get there. Not to mention, when we wanted to go shooting, there wasn’t any thought into going to a range full of retarded rules to keep idiots from shooting themselves. We just went in the backyard, set up targets, and let loose.
Well Ken J, I think that that is nice in a sort of way even though I wouldn’t go shooting in my back yard. But small towns really are what I would choose over any concrete jungle. Remember though, not all small towns are great environs for growing up kids- it’s how you grow them up; in the fear of the Lord and what not. It’s all about making your place a better place to live.
