Actor Tom Felton was the young face of evil (or at least antagonism) to a generation as the wicked Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. In the time since, the actor has kept busy and is now set to step into a new role as an enigmatic new presence named “Dorn” on the hit CW superhero series The Flash. The incoming third season will find speed-powered superhero Barry Allen facing a world thrown into chaos by the mysterious “Flashpoint” event.
Now, Felton offers details of what fans can expect from Dorn as The Flash prepares to return to TV.
Speaking to SciFi Now, Felton expanded on what he’s able to reveal about Dorn at this time, emphasizing that the character will be introduced as a “normal” human foil to The Flash. When the show returns, Barry’s relationship to the world around him will have been thrown into disarray by the reality-altering events of the season 2 finale – leaving him with figures like Dorn who claim to have a past with some version of the hero that Barry Allen himself doesn’t fully recall.
Felton explained his character, Dorn:
He’s a forensic expert, so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first. I say abrasive, but I mean that – clearly because of the events of the season – none of the relationships that Barry has had with other cast members is the same. … He’s not familiar with me, but I’m familiar with him, so it’s an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first.
Plot details of The Flash’s third season are largely being held back from audiences at this time, though that hasn’t stopped many fans from positing that Felton’s Dorn may turn out to also be a figure from The Flash’s extensive DC Comics mythology. At least one popular fan-theory suggests that Dorn could be the civilian identity of Cobalt Blue, a villain powered by mysterious “blue flame” who in the comics was ultimately revealed to be Barry’s long lost twin brother (stolen by a doctor and given to another couple to cover-up the death born the same day) and the present-day ancestor of time-traveling supervillain Professor Zoom. Others have suggested that Dorn is actually Godspeed, a character recently introduced as part of DC’s Rebirth event whose identity is not yet known.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
