2, with the exception of the rapidly changing tires in the bike scene, is my favorite i think. I’ve liked all of them. The first is awesome, but the 2nd one was a different movie than the first one. It was more, in your face, action wise. And the 3rd was just explosive and sweet.

@Sabin: None of the characters from the TV series were in the first movie, except for Jim Phelps. So, it would be impossible for them to have “killed off all the characters from the original series”. They killed off a bunch of people, but none of them were from the TV series. They were all new characters, created specifically to have creative deaths.

I didn’t like II, but I and III where excellent. I’m a big fan of them. I like the idea that every film has it’s own unique style, so if JJ Abrams doesn’t return, I wont be devastated.

It would be better with a team aspect, but it is a Tom Cruise movie. So forget about it. 3 was the best, 2 was too John Woo, and 1 was too complicated with a predictable ending.

I’m probably be in the minority as well here but I absolutely *hated* all three films. And the news that Tom Cruise is coming back doesn’t make me happy at all. I was a fan of the tv series but i was always disappointed with all these films.

First of all, they decided to make the move from a spy thriller to action, which is ridiculous. Hollywood does the exact same thing with science fiction all the time.

Second, in the first few minutes of mission: impossible 1, they killed off all of the characters of the original series and left Ethan’s character (tom cruise) live. That’s like a slap in the face on all the tv fans. (I remember reading that Tom bought the rights for adapting the series into a film and thus, was responsible for that).

LOL, the title is obviously just a photoshopped version of MI3, 4 in roman numberals would be IV.

Anyhow, I can’t believe there are people here who think MI2 was the best. It was the biggest crapfest out of all of them. Oh yah, a cool long-haired agent with exploding “cool” sunglasses, firing off a handgun that never needs to be reloaded until one very convenient time with no shooting, riding around in motorcycles, all with overused slow motion and white doves… oh wait, it’s a John Woo movie, typical John Woo formula… Now I understand…

1 was forgettable, 2 was retarded, 3 was the best of the 3 by far. I hope they stick to the formula used in 3 where he relies on the help from his team and he’s not some supersoldier with god mode and unlimited ammo cheats like he had activated in 2…

III was the best,
II not bad, but the worst,
I, better than II (marginaly, because it’s s to much a product of the 90′s (i hope you know what I mean, might get back to that later on)

IV ? Bring it on. If III was anything to go on, i’d like it.

on the numeral’s debate: (quoting wikipedia)

The notation of Roman numerals has varied through the centuries. Originally, it was common to use IIII to represent four, because IV represented the Roman god Jupiter, whose Latin name, IVPPITER, begins with IV. The subtractive notation (which uses IV instead of IIII) has become the standard notation only in modern times.

I love the MI franchise, I personally though MI3 got screwed, it didn’t make as much as it should have. If this one is like the others it should be a huge adrenaline rush and shouldn’t let people down.

I honestly thought the 3rd one was drawn out WAYYYY too long. They easily could have cut 30 minutes from that film. The idea of a 4th does absolutely nothing me. While I generally enjoy Cruise’s films, I think the Mission Impossible series should just left in oblivion.
