Less than 2 weeks after we reported on Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire signing on to return for Spider-Man 4 and 5, word now comes that Maguire will be coming back… with perks.
According to The Times, Maguire will not only earn a reported $50 million(!) for both films. He’ll also be granted “family time” - getting to leave the set in the early mornings and evenings to spend time with his wife and 22-month old daughter.

That has supposedly been one of the main issues in the negotiations between Maguire and Sony. He’s willing to spend the 6 months or so filming both films back-to-back. But he’s demanding he has to be able to see his family during the shoot. Granted I don’t have any kids. So I can’t relate.
But I’ll bet money played a pretty big factor too.
Sony is also expected to announce in the next few days whether or not Kirsten Dunst will return as Webhead’s favorite red-head Mary Jane Watson.
I think I can speak for others when I say I’m more interested in knowing who will be helming the forthcoming Spider-Man sequels. I don’t know anyone who wants to see Dunst come back.
No offense, Kirsten.
Spider-Man 4 is currently aiming for a May 2011 release.

I really admire him for sticking to his guns on the family issue. More stars should do that. Most of us average people expect our employers to be understanding in regard to familial issues. I think it’s cool that he would give that a high priority.
Now that the films are going to be made back to back, what could justify it? We don’t have enough for a Sinister Six and dear Yoda I hope it doesn’t have to deal with Venom, but wouldn’t it be interesting if it dealt with the return of Norman Osborn and the identity revelation of Spider-Man. I mean filmwise, he’s more adored like Superman than the webslinger who’s mauled by almost everyone in the comics, and it would make from some different stories and takes on old tales.
My admiration for Maguire just went up a notch. Like Jamie said, I’m sure money had a lot to do with him coming back but to think of his family also is admirable.
I have no problem with Dunst coming back; I just don’t want her to have soo much screen time, like in SM 3. The movie should be about Spidey kicking butt, not him in some soap-opera-esk boring garbage.
That pic would ge great with some cash stacks in each of his hands, haha.
I agree, I don’t care about Dunst coming back. At this point, it would take away from what I think the audience wants to see - we don’t need 4-5 movies of their romance being built/broken.
Let’s keep it simple with one well-thought out villain and a good story this time.
Good for him on the family issue! Heck, with that paycheck he’ll be able to experience his child’s childhood all the way from current age until high school graduation without having to spend another minute away from home.

I’m betting the money issue was more important, and I bet he’s going to spend that time off in clubs or other activities instead of spending time with his family. Sorry, I don’t have much optimism when it comes to Maguire. lol

I dont dislike Kirsten. I think she is quite cute and her acting was just fine compared to plenty of big stars. I dont think she did anything for me to dislike her
I don’t want a ton of screen time for MJ either, but I think 5 should conclude with their wedding.(If it’s the final film lol)
I know plenty of people who want to see Dunst come back me being one of them. I don’t think there are very many talented actresses in hollywood and I think she is one of the few. Not only do I like her as Mary Jane and in general I hate the idea of casting new people period.
Dunst doesn’t need to be recast, just remove MJ altogether. Bring on Gwen or Felicia.
So what if their relationship didn’t really come to a close… if the action is good from the opening, most people won’t even care
Oh sorry I’m one of those people that are in to story and plot points action is never all that important to me just a nice little bonus. I won’t watch it if they do drop MJ.
All I’ve got to say on this is…no dancing, emo-looking superheroes; this isn’t ABC’s “Dancing With The Superheroes”!

Hey I really want Kirsten Dunst to come back, she was my favorite character in the movie!
MJ was ok - now it’s time for Gwen Stacy to rile things up! They better bring back Sam.
I agree Wes build story around Gwen, Jackel, Lizard and the cloned Peter Parker…It was a great story arc from the comics in the late seventies/early eighties..Spiderman-VsSpider-man showdown at the end of four only to realize in the beginning of five that the clone won the battle and the real spiderman is locked away in Jackals lab somewhere wainint to be finished off because Jackel mis in love with Gwen and Gwen is in love with Spiderman…
If they bring in ANY of the clone stroyline I will puke. Unless that is how they get venom back.
Sony should just forget about Raimi & McGuire and get Mark Miller on board,other-wise he’s going to get the Superman movies to wtite and reboot!!!
After “Wanted” this guy is the hottest kid on the block!!
But Spidey needs a sharp-team of dedicated actors and director to make sure the next movies are pushing the superhero movies upwards and onwards!!!Sharp story & effects are paramount here!
Mark Millar isn’t getting anywhere near SPIDER-MAN…or SUPERMAN.
I do agree that the franchise needs new blood behind the camera.
