To-Do List revolves around the exploits of Type-A personality Brandy Klark (Plaza), a high school graduate who feels she needs to catch up on some essential “extra-curricular” activities - and by that we mean, sex. Thus, Brandy throws caution to the wind during a summer-long “cram session” meant to prepare her for a proper university experience.
The film marks the feature-length debut of writer and director, Maggie Carey - a former writer on The Jeannie Tate Show and Funny or Die Presents..., as well as the wife of SNL veteran and Superbad costar Bill Hader (who appears in Carey's film).
Other familiar faces get to make a cameo in the trailer, including Clark Gregg (The Avengers), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Sarah Steele (The Good Wife) and Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie).
It's foremost a showcase for Plaza's acting talents, though, as she winds her way through kinky situations involving a handsome hippie guitarist (Friday Nights Lights alum, Scott Porter), Community star Donald Glover, and an unkempt punk Andy Samberg in the shower. Of course, ribald humor and comedic awkwardness ensue.
Carey is poised to make a splash with her debut, as The To-Do List appears to offer a down-to-earth (and hilariously dirty) take on a woman's coming-of-sexual-age. Plaza isn't a household name just yet, but this could be the sort of star vehicle that propels her career to the next level - much like Easy A did for Emma Stone, before she appeared in The Help and Amazing Spider-Man.
The To-Do List opens in theaters on February 14th next year and could be the rare palpable "chick flick option" for Valentine's Day viewing - though, if it doesn't look like your cup of tea, there's still A Good Day to Die Hard.
