american choppers TLC Un Cancels American Chopper; Will It Be the Same?

Updated: ‘American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior’ Season 2: Featured Bikes & OCC’s Foreclosure Plans

Despite being canceled and the “final episode” airing on February 11th, TLC has decided to bring the Teutul family back from the proverbial television graveyard by renewing their flagship motorcycle series, American Chopper, for another season.

The past season of American Chopper showed the collapse of the Teutul family as Mikey and Paul Jr. dissolved their relationship with Paul Sr. One could sense that the series was on its final legs, so nobody was surprised when it was finally announced that TLC canceled American Chopper. However, with the news of TLC renewing American Chopper, one has to wonder what led the network to change its mind?

Could it be that while TLC may be returning to the world of Orange Country Choppers, the show might change focus and make Paul Jr., and not OCC, the central figure?

Just a couple weeks ago, Paul Jr. announced via his Twitter account that he was starting to build a new shop for him to work out of.

building out my new shop- i feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day!! So nice out, think I will take the boys to the park

Combine that with the announcement in the so-called “final episode” that Paul Jr. would be marrying his long-time girlfriend this year and you’ve got the makings of his own reality show.

While some may say that the series has run its course and should stay canceled, I would be incredibly interested in watching if TLC decides to focus more on Paul Jr. building new his company, Paul Jr. Designs, as it would be a nice return to how American Chopper began 7 years ago.

What do you think of TLC bringing back American Chopper? Should it stay canceled? Would you want the show to continue the way it was or focus more on Paul Jr. and Mikey?

No dates have been announced when American Chopper will return to TLC.

  1. Would love to see the show keep going. Did get a little tired of the old man screaming all the time, but I think he still has to be in the show somewhere. Maybe janitor or something.

  2. The old man has been fortunate to last as long as he did. Everyone that ever watched the show new where all of the magic came from and it sure wasnt Sr.! Jay Leno, David Letterman even agreed that all the old man did was b**** and screem, and destroy a lot of items just cause he felt like it. He can build anything by his self. It amazes me at the times they cant get a two cyl. engine,in the right firing order. The Jason kid is a JOKE.He is not even a NERD, he is an a#$% kissing klultz

    • it should be CANT BUILD ANY THING BY HIS SELF

  3. my wife and I drove by paul jr. new place this summer, and we actually seen him outside on the phone, but they were filming at the time and could not visit then, so we went to occ and went in, we were amazed at how dirty the place was, inside and out, not to mention the dreary dark feeling we both felt after entering the place. I think of an old attage for sr. which is, RUDENESS IS AN IMITATION OF A WEAK MANS STRENGTH, I think that pretty much sums sr. up….

  4. i have wwatched the show from the beginning. i have seen every show at least twice. there is no denying who the creative talent is. Paul jr. makes some incredible designs. Paul sr. bolts aftermarket parts on a frame and calls it a design. it is laughable. i am sad that the family is wrecked the way it is. no family should have to endure the pain that the Teutels are experiencing. that said, the turmoil is what made the show popular, along with the bikes. without the bickering it would have been a bike building show. so what. i love the PJD company and hope Rick jumps ship as it is obvious that he is stuck at occ. go JR!

    • Yeah. Jr. takes the extra step of bolting on parts someone else did on a CAD, programmed into a CNC and cut out with a 5 Axis. Must be that whole New Millenium fabricating thing.

  5. I really enjoy the show. Jr does a more classy and professional bike than OCC . Jr is innovative in his ideas and design. Senior is hard headed and jealous of Jr ‘s ability and success. Senior could not except the fact that Jr’s innovative ideas and personality made him a more popular figure on the show.Jr has helped in the success OCC has had and senior doesn’t get the recognition he thinks he deserves.

    • Yep, that Jr. is mos’ def a rock star.

  6. Ok, this last episode on Monday, 1/3…..I was actually laughing because the producer literally told Sr. NOT to watch the show!!! LOL Imagine, Sr. was actually angry with the producer because of how HE looks! I just can’t stop laughing at that. Gee Sr., do you think if they had footage of you where one could possibly perceive you as anything but a butt hole, they’d show it? Maybe it’s a conspiracy against YOU!! I think he should watch the show and get into therapy as soon as possible. He needs it more than Mikey does.

  7. Dear TLC, Lets get back to creativity. Give Jr. a show with Vinnie,Rick and the Nubster. You could throw in a bit of Mikey to show the brotherly love. I don’t mean Mikey working on bikes.
Cut the old man from the scene because he is already a saint and so much talent that no one else can show theirs. I’m sure he can make it on his own and I won’t have to watch him

    • Dude, he’s already made it on his own, two or three times. If he stops being on TV, he’ll be so busy counting all his money he won’t have time to be concerned with whether people like him or not.

  8. the series should be bk but more american chopper occ not that paul junior rubbish that has been the most boring annoying television over the last episodes let him go do his grills and boutique we dont want to see that most viewers watch it to see the bikes as for michael you can only laugh at him so much its really lame now

  9. Although I am not a bike enthusiast (haven’t even sat on one in over 40 years) I had made it a point to watch the program. How could you not? The human interaction of an overbearing father, a son that has unlimited design talents but somewhat weak work ethics that irritate “POP” and another son with no work ethics at all adding comic relief with a personality you just have to like. The kinds of family issues that make your own somehow suddenly seem trivial. Despite the family discord, by mixing in Vinnie, Rick and Nub this small family owned business created some terrific one-of-a-kind bikes and blossomed into international notoriety.
The “Senior vs. Junior” version has become nothing more than divorce court run totally amuck with bike building thrown in as an afterthought. The show now seems to center on being a platform for Senior to publically degrade Junior supplemented with OCC newbie’s dog piling for TV time. As such the show has lost its appeal and I blame the Discovery Channel’s producers for that. Yes the formula worked when American Chopper first aired because most of the program was about the bikes. The Discovery Channel is now hard at work trying to do it again through such uninteresting programs like Pawn Brokers (like that lasted long), Gold Rush “#1 New Program” (don’t miss the part that specifies it being #1 on Friday nights and at 9:00 – Give me a break), and Sons of Guns (point made there is a daughter so you know what to expect). If the Discovery Channel wants a reality show centered solely on bickering – give me a call. I have an ex-wife that would love to get paid for it!
Would I like to see the show continue in a modified form? Absolutely, but absent OCC. It is has had its 15 minutes and prospered from it. Orange County Choppers is no longer a small family business making high end bikes based on crayon sketched designs. What could be better than a recognized bike builder like Junior striking out to build a new business of his own? Plenty of subplots are available. Will Junior grow size 12’s and kick himself in the butt? Will his venture succeed, fail, or everyone simply go bankrupt due to their lawsuits? Does OCC go under and Junior pulls off the ultimate get-even by taking it over thus reuniting himself with his previous creations. Does Rick ever move to JPD reuniting the original cast of characters? I am ready for “American Chopper – JPD Style”, what about you.

    • I enjoyed that, right up to the last sentence.

  11. I do not care what anybody else thinks I feel Paul Jr. should be given his own show with the old cast members of Vinnie, Mike, Nub, Rick and cody if possible and a few who jump ship when OCC goes under. Paul Sr. will eventually come to Junior asking for forgiveness and hanging around Paul jr. shop wanting Paul jr. to give him a job. We can not climb so high that we can’t be knocked down to where we once were. I am 61 years old and would never think about trying to bring harm to my son. No matter what, he is my son and I will love him till the day I die. Give Paul Junior his own show and let him show he can still create beautiful bikes.

  12. Let’s hope they do focuse on pauly Jrthe ,mikey, and vinnie they are the show as far as I’m concerned. Less Sr the better the show is.who wants to see him moaning and whining about how no good his sons are for an hour. He should stand behind his sons like a real man should towards his sons, and not act like a jealous two year who’s worried that he got less than the the other kids got. I say they can his ass off the show period

  13. i watch the show faithfully and i think for sr to talk about his kid like that is low as they come he ant worth the film you all wast on him i only watch the show to make fun of him with my friends and to watch jr. now his a good guy and can build some nice bikes even though i know it hurts to have your father be that way toward you i really hope you all have a show about pjd and no sr his a wast of time paul jr desigas all the way baby

    • One would wonder if all his sons have pulled away from him, that it would cause Sr. to think “Hmm, maybe it’s me?”. Trouble with SR is that he is so camera happy. I know from all the past shows when he started getting really bad, it seemed he felt he had to yell and rant to make it interesting, it didn’t occur to him that he was bringing it down. Sad really. But David, I agree with you, shut down SR all together, and make this show again about bikes and the creations. I never get tired of that, and I’m 65 years old. Loved the OLD OC, so down with the new, bring out the best, Go Junior..

  14. Although I agree that Paul Jr is the creative force, I’ve seen show bikes that put him to shame. Maybe because there is always a deadline. Howvwe, the real lure od the show has been the family dynamics. I think Mikey is a show by himself, even though it’s like watching a train wreck…but isn’t that the appeal of most reality shows? The old man is completely self-deluded and totally taken with himself. He seems like a bitter moron, making me thankful for my own father.

    • Here’s a thought…..Oprah has her own network now…..move the whole Teutel soap opera there. The series was about building bikes. Like Jesse James, these guys get a sense that they are rock stars and begin to take themselves too seriously.
They have their place in the bike world, but are by no means the only show in town. Celebrity does not equal talent.

  15. the old man is delusional, sinile and has a limited use or the ENGLISH language. How he has accomplished what he has is a miricle, and from the last few shows it wont be long his bark will be much less then it was, much like a cha wa wa.. see you around SEnior,,REMEMBER YOU SCREWED IT UP BY BEING A jerk!!

  16. You know if you watch some of the original shows when they where in there first small shop they all seemed to have fun building the bikes and going to the shows. They seemed to enjoy each other to the point of doing other things together. It is really a shame the money got in the way. It’s always about the money.

  17. It always amazes me that the people that make comments should reread what they wrote. Some of the comments were about the lack of the English language, as the post is broken phrases errors in spelling and the whole post cones off as if it were written by a person with a 3rd grade (if that) education. The show was good in the beginning and sure there were tiffs, as any family would have. But if you are going to judge the show at least be honest and factual. Jr. does have some good ideas, but a lot of the bikes are aided in design by the other people that work on it. Jr. would show up whenever he wanted to and expect everybody else to have the work done. Even now with his new shop, in at lease one instance, the four wheeler project,a deadline was there but where was Jr.? Playing with his girlfriend. Even Vinney got upset and said on the show “if Jr. isn’t going to be here I am going home, this is Bull”. Sr. worked from nothing to create what he has now. Jr. was given a free ride and chose to abuse it. Did Jr. have to start from nothing and sacrifice every day to make ends meet? NO! His new start, huge house, vehicles all from money that was made by the original show, that Sr. made for the family.Every person has the right to try to be successful and if that is achieved they have the right to enjoy it. Mikey is a follower. Artist he is NOT, Comedian He is NOT, except to be the butt of many jokes. Jr. can sway Mikey in any waay he wants to, a puppet at best and definitely does not have the ability or ambition to succeed on his own, he hangs on the coststails of the rest of the family and reaps the monetary benefits by being the court jester. I feel sorry for Vinney and the rest of the Jr. shop, they are the talent that makes the bikes a success. Jr. wants to be a celebrity and everybody else is to make him looki good while HE TAKES THE CREDDIT. It appears that the posts that are being made are from people that are jealous of what Sr has accomplished while his spoiled brats get undeserved praise. Sr is not without his faults for sure, but Jr and Mikey do not walk on water. American Chopper come or go I don’t care one way or another. If the show is that big a part of you peoplee’s lives , YOU need to get a life of your own. I any of you commenters have a bike, best wishes for safe rides and the freedom that two whells gives us. Ride On Ride Safe Ride Free.

    • Your apology aside, maybe you should get a life!! Who died and made you the keeper of who is right or wrong. And if you feel you can take or leave it, then why bother commenting at all?? We’re all allowed to “comment” on what we see and feel. You obviously WATCH the show and have your own opinion, maybe YOU need to get a LIFE and don’t act like you have ALL THE ANSWERS.

I like the show, I don’t like Sr’s behavior, I don’t think Jr is perfect, I know Sr worked hard, but that DOESN’T EXCUSE HIS BEHAVIOR AS A FATHER! He is trying to destroy his son and whether you like it or not, we all see the SAME THING ON THE SHOW, so your insight is no big deal to most of the commentors on this site. On the other hand, your HOLIER THAN THOU ATTITUDE is offensive and you are certainly welcome to locate another site and do Jr bashing there, if you like. And although there are those whose typing and sentencing may be a bit off, as long as I can get the idea they are trying to get across, I don’t think berating them is appropriate.
      Where’s your class?

      • I apologize for the above comment, I was clearly out of line and class!

        • No you weren’t. Some of your critical comments regarding Terry Cleveland’s rant were spot on.

    • #1 I was using Dragon due a jammed thumb. How ever that is no excuse. I do have a few questions for you, #1 waay,#2coststails,#3looki,#4 creddit,#5 peoplees,#6 whells,,,,,DON’T USE DRAGON,(I aready did),and dont use sticking keyboard, and admit it you messed up,,no big deal, UNLESS YOU MAKE IT ONE! Sincerely, with a smile on my face let me wish you a good day

    • HOW DO you spell WHEELS?,,What is cones, guess you really mean comes, of course I am sure you read and then re read and still didn’t get it right ,, what were you saying about third grade education, it always comes back to bite you in the ass when you are being an ass yourself,,,,,what an ASS,,DUMB whoops that should be dumb ass,,,,its all in fun so GET OVER IT!!

    • Mr. Cleveland, I agree 100% with your train of thought, but before you criticize anyone’s elses’ grammar, syntax or spelling, you might want to proofread your own.

  18. Sorry for the spelling errors of my own, was trying to type too fast I guess and I could not get to edit it.

    • I waited for one hour for you to respond ,on your failure to spell a few words, and as I posted after waiting for one hour you did, please forgive me for jumpimg on your mis-spelled words, and some made up words, what is a COSTSTAILS??? 19. Let’s please be civil when talking to each other, folks.

    Thanks,

    Vic

    • VIC< VIC,that was what started a WAR!! lolol

  20. I dont think the show is gonna survive. All that is gonna happen is that Sr is gonna sit around and whine and cause trouble for his son, because he left and now there is no target for Sr’s roid-rages! Then Jr. is gonna fall on his face because he is not experienced with the business side of business (his website is really weird…the pages look like they arent even loaded and you have to scroll down halfway to see the products). My ol’ man checked out the coleman grill he designed and laughed at it, and he actually likes the show and the guys on it. It was right next to the other coleman travel grill and it seemed way chintzier when you opened them both up. As for the “design” on it, a couple tough guy lookin’ rivets and some piddly detail that can barely be noticed, it was negligible. The latch was really wimpy. I am not trying to be mean or anything, but owning a business is a big commitment and requires more than “emloyee” effort…everything Paul is doing kinda whines “good enough” instead of screaming, “WOW!” Again, not trying to be mean…everyone can improve on themselves. Jr is gonna have to start committing more effort into what he does and into doing it RIGHT. Sr is gonna have to go back to his roots and actually start working on bikes again. I think he can work on bikes? Maybe? I dunno, I heard it was true but I am not sure.

  21. I also saw that grill.Paul Jr. should hang his head in shame over that mistake.
    harry

  22. In all fairness, Paul just designed the look and style, Coleman manufactures the components and parts on the Grill people….its not like he made the parts in his basement,,lol

  23. I liked the Sr. vs. Jr series, though not all were aired in Australia. I would like to see the show continue, but with more focus on Jr. I wouldn’t throw Senior out completely, as I like to see him looking increasingly stupid and going down the gurgler. In Australia we always prefer the underdog, and I would love to see Jr doing well and Sr learning that he has thrown out those who were keeping his business going. Stupid, stupid man, but great television.

  24. Paul Jr and OCC simply the best

    • The best what?

  25. Love Paul Jr design. He is the best.

    • OK, he’s “the best”. Compared to what?

  26. I am one of those that really liked the show at the beginning. It was a really good show, everyone got along, they built great bikes, and it was a good show to watch. Then the old man started making money and buying antique cars and bikes and bragging about his stuff, and bigger buildings and new shops and new this and that and the old man then started on jr,all of a sudden he wasn’t any good at anything, and the show went to pot.It is now one of the worse shows on tv when sr is on the show.Jr makes good bikes his shop has people in it that get along, and they seem to enjoy making great bikes, and everytime sr makes a bike he talks about how much better it is than jrs,and how good he is and he hasn’t lost his touch, and jr is an idiot due to him now,and he wants his stock back.Jr should just give him his stock back for a very little and be done with it.I think jr is the show now and I hope the show is given to him and sr is taken off and put out to pasture with his antique bikes and cars and his pretty new log home and very pretty wife and his money and live alone without his children and tell himself how wonderful he is everday.Long live jr,and the show,I will continue to watch just to see jr build bikes…

  27. The thing between the father and son is cooling off now that all has been settled over the stock i think.I believe they will start doing a lot of things that will use both camps in the show more than now.I think things will calm down between them, but jr stil builds the best choppers of the two camps I feel.Just look at the bikes and the one on the last episode jr won hands down as it set on the ground you heard the crowd.Keep the show going its a good show…

  28. Let’s get off of this reality tv crap and put more movies and shows on like the good ole days or hire my friends and I we would love to make millions off of your realty tv shows I ‘m sure we could do a good story line like (getting drunk, pregnant, infidelity, arguing, bitching, throwing things, fighting, blowing things up,) to put a huge ass crown to see who can put more points on it before anyone else can.

  29. Really?… You dont have a clue the mistake you are making on canceling this show….for all the garbage we have out there…this id actully a show my family is looking forward to see.
