We recently found out the supposed plot for the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which, according to Hollywood Elsewhere, would feature Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Co. searching for the infamous Fountain of Youth. It’s not been officially announced but it seems plausible, and at this point we have no reason to think that it’s false.
So with that “semi-confirmed” plot (whatever that means) in mind, you could be forgiven for assuming Pirates 4 would be titled something akin to, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Search For the Fountain of Youth” or simply “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Fountain of Youth.” But no, at the D23 Disney Fan Expo, a logo/banner for the fourth Pirates movie was unveiled and it revealed the name and the release date: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has a (general) release date of Summer 2011.
On Stranger Tides, huh? I wonder just what that could mean. Since no plot details were revealed at the Disney Expo, that just leaves us all to speculate as to what the subtitle could be referring to. Could it mean Captain Jack Sparrow and Co. traveling to unknown, uncharted seas to find the Fountain of Youth? Do we take “Stranger” as in the characters don’t know what the “Tides” are? Or could it be something that will only make sense once you see the movie, as was the case with this summer’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince?
Erik Davis from Cinematical came across a pirate book by the same name as the newly assigned Pirates 4 subtitle. As Erik asks on Twitter – “Did Disney swipe the title from this book for Pirates 4?” or, “are they adapting it?” The Tim Powers written book is available on Amazon, here is the synopsis from it:
“Puppeteer John Chandagnac, bound for Jamaica to recover stolen money from his uncle, becomes Jack Shandy after pirates attack his ship and force him to join their crew. Shandy’s struggle to accept his new life grounds the story for readers, even as Blackbeard and vodun magicians whisk everyone away to dreamlike lands where the Fountain of Youth itself awaits. The chaotic sea battles sing, though at times key events happen so quickly that they get lost in the shuffle as Jack tries to comprehend where he’s going and what’s at stake.”

Hold on a minute: the Fountain of Youth (with a main character called Jack)? Isn’t that what Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is supposed to be about? I find it hard to believe that Disney isn’t aware of the existence of Powers’ book, and aren’t using as at least an inspiration, if not a full on basis for adaptation, like Cinematical says. That’s an interesting idea to ponder – four movies into a franchise looking elsewhere for material to base your story off of. If true, it could work tremendously in the film/franchise’s favor or it could seriously backfire. I’ll leave it to you to give your thoughts on which way it would go.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has Chicago director, Rob Marshall, rumored to be directing, with Johnny Depp being the only cast member we know of so far who is definitely returning (Keira Knightley has previously said no to returning). Production is supposed to start next Spring and is (as mentioned) set to be released in the summer of 2011.

What do you mean its a long time until 2011?, i’ve been looking at it this way “Its coming out already in two years!”. Thay are already going to start filming it in april 2010 for a may 2011 theatrical release date to be released to theaters, so really if you think about it!, it is coming real soon!. The last time i actually do remember checking to see when it was set to come out out, it was set to come out in 2012, but now things have changed so fast!, and its now coming out sooner then originally planned, so thats why i said what i said before!.
I have just found out on the Movie Website imdb.com that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is coming to Theaters in July 2011.

Yes, infact that is confirmed!, rob marshall will be directing it and will be taking over gore verbinski’s place for the next three pirates of the caribbean movies, thats including pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides. Now that imdb.com says its coming to theaters in july 2011, do you think or know if imdb.com is a good enough reliable source to believe?, or in otehr words, do you think that what imdb.com is right about the “july 2011″ estimated release date that they have on imdb.com’s pirates of the caribbean: onstranger tides webpage on imdb.com?.

Anyone can create an account on IMDB and update a movie entry. Updates do go through an editorial process but I’m sure bogus or unverifiable stuff gets through.

If thats the case, then why hasn’t it been changed back to saying summer 2011 or may 2011???. It has not been changed back or to some other estimated date since then, so what does that tell you then?!. I think that means that, that estimated date for the movie might actually be correct!. I can’t think of any other reason then that!.

On IMDB it says that it will be released in July 2011, so that’s probably right
And it’s just been anounced that the movie will be made, so they don’t know the exactly right date! Relax..

Actually, it was announced that there will be a pirates of the caribbean 4, way back in september 2008, not just recently!. I already knew that, because i’m always looking up websites on the internet to see what i can find out about pirates of the caribbean 4. But anyways!, you think that estimated date on imdb is right?, please let me know if you think it is right for sure!.

I just discovered on disney.go.com, on the walt disney pictures section of that website, that they have just added a section pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides, and the tentitive release date they gave it for right now is “summer 2011″. If anyones interested here whos leaving comments here like me, check it out!. I found it just now, a few minutes ago, before left this comment here!.
Well, on IMDB now it says that Johnny Depp will maybe drop the project because Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook sudden dismissal/resignation…

Johnny Depp is not going to drop out of pirates of the caribbean 4, because then he’ll end up loosing his capabilities to be in any disney movie, so i highly doubt that johnny depp wont be in pirates of the caribbean 4 !. He will be in pirates of the caribbean 4, and will eventually get over dick cooks leaving the company, because i know for a fact that jerry bruckheimer and walt disney pictures will let that him leave because, the pirates of the caribbean movie are too successful to just drop out of just because a higher authority left the wald disney pictures campany!.

Johnny Depp already said before disk ccoks leaving the company, that depending on how good the script is for pirate sof the caribbean: on stranger tides, he will return as captian jack sparrow. Disck cooks leaving the disney campany is not going to destroy pirates of the caribbean 4, or prevnt it from happening with depp in it!. Johnny Depp has already made a done deal to be in pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides for, i think it is $56 million dollars or more, maybe more then that, i’m not sure!. But yeah!, you see what ia sayin’?!, he not leaving pirates movies, just because of a higher authority leaving the disney comapny, just because of dick cooks leaving, what dicks reason is for leaving the disney company!.

But Johnny took it really hard because Dick was the only one who trusted him when nobody else did, when it came to how to portray as Captain Jack. Johnny didn’t see it comming, there was no reason to see this comming…

I know for a fact, that once johnny depp gets the chance to even read the pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides script, he’ll be happy with it!, because he was happy enough with the scripts “obviously” to be in the first three movies, which he was!. So I just don’t see how after him being in the first three movies, that he would be unhappy with the script of the fourth movie!, i just don’t think that’ll happen!, that he’ll be unhappy with the fourth movies script, because the writers of the stories for each of the movies, “ted elliott and terry rossio have not failed yet at making johnny depp happy with the story on the script to be in the thoses movies!. Theres just now way that this time, he wont like the script, because this time i know he’s able to trust the writers at writing a wonderful script with an amazing story on it!.
But remember that now it’s based on a book……
Yes, it is based on a book, so that should be able to help the writers write the script, and then that way, the script will make sense, and will be a great story, and maybe with it hopefully turning out that way, johnny depp will like it enough to be in the movie after all!. I know that johnny depp will be in the fourth movie, because that guy that left disney didn’t die, he only left, and could still come back!, so i don’t think thats a good enough reason for johnny depp to leave the franchise, but i would understand if he left because that guy died but, he didn’t so he really has no reason to quite the franchise now!. I sure someone else just as good at his or her job, will be hired for dick cooks spot in disney, the people that hire him or her will make sure that johnny depp is o.k. with him or her and he’ll still star in pirates of the caribbean 4 as captain jack sparrow!, with out any problems at hand!.
Johnny Depp will be in pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides, because of the $56 million dollar deal that they have made already, and because his commitment with jerry bruckheimer and disney and he does not want to disappoint his trillions of fans, so he will be back in the fourth pirates of the caribbean movie titled as pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides, that will start filming in april 2010, for a may 2011 theatrical release date!. Johnny Depp, is only going to though a temperary withdrawl phase right now, which is because dick cook leaving the company!, he’ll get over it eventually, and shortly, and will move on from that , and “hopeflly” will stick with the pirates movies, because they all have been a “BIG” success!, and i’m totally sure he is definately aware of that for sure!. Johnny Depp will not quite the pirates of the caribbean movies, because those set of movies are of the biggest movies he’s ever been in!, and hes already been in three of them, so there is basically no reason for to quite being in them now, even though dick cook is no longer in the disney company, i’m sure that someone else will take his place and will convince johnny depp to continue the frinchise, and jerry bruckheimer will too!. Wih out depp, there will be no more pirates of the caribbean movies!, but lest all hope that does not turn out to be the case!.
Lets all hope the script is good, and that johnny depp likes it enough to want to be in pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides, dispite dick cooks leaving the company!. I think that ted elliott and terry rossio’s script writing skills will not disappoint him to the point to where he would decide to not be in the fourth movie, because they obviously did a good enough job keeping him in the firth three movies, because if the story isn’t any good for any of the pirates of the caribbean movies, then johnny depp woud probably disaprove them and the pirates of the caribbean movies wouldn’t even excist!. But luckily they do, and hopefully pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides will happen and as well as pirates of the caribbean 5 and pirates of the caribbean 6.
Sean, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are NOT going to just let Johnny Depp stop with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. They are going to do what ever it takes to get him to stay with the pirates of the caribbean no matter what, because of all the fans, and because the pirates of the caribbean movies are just way to good to be stopped now, i don’t think pirates of the caribbean 2 and 3 were bad at all, they just had story and plots in them that just had too much in them to totally understand them or to keep up with them, while watching pirates 2 and 3.
