Yeah, I was aware of the rudimentary systems in place before for previewing backgrounds and such, but this is an integrated system with MOVING CGI characters - don't forget that there will be SIX "sythespians" created for Avatar - completely CGIed. I'm talking about having those characters on screen and interacting with the live characters while they shoot in real time.

I am also a huge believer in the upcoming industry and in particular the home video industry afterward. I recently obtained 3DHomeVideos.com, MotionPictures3D.com and 3Dvertise.com to back that up! :-)

Movies like Tin Tin are greate for mo-cap, but movis like JLA should stick with live acion.

I also think that Spieldberg is one of the most creative people in hollywood.

I hope it will look more like Beowulf instead of the polar expres. As I heared that was mo-cap too.

I actually got to see the Pace/Camera camera at NAB 2007, and I was able to watch 3D footage shot with it.

Seeing FX live has been done since at least 2000, when they'd hook up an old Canon XL1 to a computer and have a live display on the blue screen set of Spielberg's AI to give everyone an idea of the FX, background, etc.

I'm excited about this new technology and upcoming (in probably 2-3 years) 3D HDTVs.

Nice post. Actually there is a big difference between motion capture and performance capture. James Cameron felt it necessary to coin the phrase to describe these very differences:

1. Cameron is able to see his performers live on his screen WITH the background and other CGI performers IN PLACE. Granted the quality is like a 1980's video game, but it is there and bound to improve every year. This will drastically decrease shooting time as compared to motion capture.

2. James Cameron / Vince Pace use a new system of capturing a performers emotions through facial expression. Very little is known about it, but it will eliminate the need for prosthetics.

For more information about Tintin, 3D movies and 3D technology check out my blog - http://marketsaw.blogspot.com
