Tim Robbins Joins Green Lantern Cast

3 years ago by Rob Keyes

From what we know of Martin Campbell’s adaption of Green Lantern and its cast, Mark Strong will likely be playing Sinestro, the title character’s main nemesis in the books but he will not be the main villain of the movie. Instead, Sinestro will be the mentor of Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan character, developed to be the main villain in the sequel(s).

So, that leaves Dr. Hector Hammond, played by Peter Sarsgaard, as the feature villain of the Green Lantern origins movie. We know that Dr. Hector Hammond is “the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father’s eyes” and now we know who’s playing the father: Tim Robbins!

Interestingly enough, it was Robbins who also was rumored to play Tony Stark’s father originally in Iron Man 2 before they ended up going with John Slattery (a better choice in my opinion).

Robbins joins the cast as Senator Hammond, a cast which already includes Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and possibly Mark Strong. It’s an impressive group that director Campbell has put together so far and definitely a worthy competing film for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. to put up against Marvel Studios and their Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America films which also come out next summer.

What do you think of the cast so far?

Green Lantern begins production next month in New Orleans and is set for release June 17, 2011.

Here's to hoping Tom Cruise wrestles him to the ground and kills him with a shovel.

The name rings a bell, but I can't think of anything he's done to be honest. I'm very excited for this movie though. I think a lot of people will like it and it'll be the next big superhero hit to compete against Iron Man.

Batman movies already took down Spidey flicks… Iron Man's next on the list. Let's hope Green Lantern can do it.

    Tim Robbins:
Shawshank Redemption, Mission to Mars, The Hudsucker Proxy, War of the Worlds, High Fidelity, Arlington Road, Bull Durham, Top Gun, etc. etc. etc.

And Batman never took down Spidey. You can't really compare them. Batman films have had a dozen movies, Spidey only 3. Spider-man is also much more kid-friendly than the newer Batman movies. And Spider-man 2 was very very well-received. Just ignore the third. Haha.

Are you hoping that Green Lantern “takes down” Iron Man? Because I'm not so sure about that either. Iron Man already has a huge following.

this movie is starting to sound pretty much like a live action version of First Flight. I'm not saying that's bad, but it might be a little boring or repetitive for people who've seen that

Cant stand the commie Robbins or his wife. If hes in the movie I hope its a short bit part. Actually I would like him off the slate altogether. If I never saw him or his wife in another flick it would be too soon!

Reynolds, is a good choice for Hal though…witty
