Last December Screen Rant reported on the rumor that Tim Robbins would be playing Tony Stark’s father in Iron Man 2. It was said that Robbins would play Howard Stark in an important flashback scene in which Tony was just a boy.
I must admit when I first heard this rumor I thought it was a good idea. Robbins has proven before, specifically with The Shawshank Redemption, that he has some serious acting talent, and adding that to a superhero flick like Iron Man 2 isn’t at all a bad thing.

This rumor doesn’t just come to us as some sort of “counter debunk rumor” to throw us off the trail a bit – but straight from the horses mouth, Tim Robbins: The rumour has been officially debunked.

If I’m to be honest I’m kind of disapointed – since Stark’s father would presumably only be in there for one or two flashback scenes at the most, I don’t see why Robbins couldn’t play him. Now that’s not saying it was even in the cards for him, but since it was mentioned (albeit as a rumor), I was kind of looking forward to seeing him in there.
At least we have Mickey Rourke as the villain of Iron Man 2… just imagine if that turned out to be untrue!

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 7th, 2010 release.

Thank God I loath him like I loath Brett Ratner. TOM SELLICK (back in the 80’s) was rumored to be Tony Stark in an Iron Man film for years. Tom Sellick should be Howard Stark!!!! Still looks about the same dude does not age
Well Ross we all know how these actors work, just like it is possible that fox leaked the Wolverine movie so to Tim could be playing Howard Stark
Since its a fast flashback, I don’t think I care who plays him really.
Wow, Tom Selleck for Howard Stark? Even though I see him as a goofy guy from Magnum P.I. with the right haircut and a trim on the mustache, I can totally see it!
And thank goodness Tim Robbins wouldn’t be in it. Seriously, can you watch that video of him talking with that open shirt, those stupid sunglasses, and that greased up slicked back hair, without vomitting a little inside your mouth? Yah, you can’t trust “those internets,” nope, those internets are pesky little buggers.
Yeah Ken the first thing I thought when I saw him was “Pimpin ain’t easy”..a little fromage there Mr. Robbins..
Back in the 80’s Magnum was tres cool but hey it was the 80’s..looking back not a lot from that decade stands out unless it is extremely tacky!!Okay I am being a little too hard there..I really love the 80’s..Sorry my adolescent years were spent there..
