I too am a professional actor, and I have found myself dissapointed by Johnny Depps work lately. He is a talented actor, which is why I am bothered. To me this Mad Hatter looks lazy, and I agree with others that it is akin to his Willy Wonka. Not just in style, but also in its emptiness. It doesn’t feel to me like he’s living this character as much as doing an impression of the character. There’s an indescribable fakeness to his acting lately that I relate to his popularity. He has a fanbase that will support him no matter how well he performs, which is the worst thing that can happen to an entertainer. I call it the “Conan O’Brien effect”. 99% of the time a struggling artist produces better work, and it appears that many of the non-actors here agree with me.

Also, being an actor gives you no higher opinion of what “good” acting is than the rest of the viewing audience. In fact, I would argue that it gives you even less of an opinion because you know the inner workings of the performance and therefore not viewing it for it’s “magical” face value. What’s more, stage acting is VASTLY different than film.

All i know is that i’m pumped to see it and J-Dawg’s accent and costume are sweet

I was hoping for a darker, more sinister “Burton” film (much like Alice, the video game) than what this trailer leads me to believe, but there may still be hope; after all, it is just a trailer.

I’ll RedBox it for a buck.
