Selleck: ‘Three Men and a Bride’ Get Engaged?

three men and a bride

The world was a very different place in 1987. Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg were box office draws after starring in one of the biggest comedy hits of all time – Three Men and a Baby, directed by none other than Leonard NimoyThree Men and a Baby brought in $ 167 million in the US alone. The success of the film spawned a sequel three years later, entitled Three Men and a Little Lady, and while it was a hit, it didn’t match the popularity of the original ($71 million).

Over the last twenty years a third film has often been discussed, usually titled Three Men and a Bride. Selleck, Danson and Guttenberg have all talked about the possibility of the film over the past decade or so – but now, according to Selleck it is closer to reality than ever before.

Last year Steve Guttenberg, or “The Gutte” as some affectionately call him, stated that Disney was pulling the strings on bringing a third film together with the original three men. Guttenberg is an enthusiastic chap and many believed that it was more wishful thinking on his part than the gears of production starting up.

However, Tom Selleck who has been out promoting his new film The Killers told MTV:

“It is true that Disney checked my availability. And I know they checked Ted’s and Steve’s, and then had a script written, I think tentatively called ‘Three Men and a Bride,’ which kind of says it all.”

While he was unsure when the film would go into production (or if at all), he did say:

“I hope it’s a good script, and if it is a good script I hope they do it, because it would be really fun to get back with Ted and Steve. The strongest of the two movies I think is the first one. It had more heart, and that’s what I hope this third one would have if we do it.”

Remaking and revisiting the 1980s is huge business in Hollywood at the moment and Three Men and a Baby is still a perennial favorite on television. A new film would get the obvious brand name recognition and audience goodwill that most sequels get – but it also comes with the added bonus of being able to bring a young a-list actress into the frame, to both mix-up the formula, as well as bolster box office grosses.

As far as belated sequels go this doesn’t seem like such a bad idea, and it would be great to see Selleck, Danson and Guttenberg back together again – the trio had great chemistry in the original films.

However, the main question is: who would you like to see as “the bride”?

  1. Another sequel from the 80s

    • yes they should do it. it will be great

  2. I will definitely go see this if they make it – I loved those films :)

Young A-list actress who could play the bride I’d have to say since I’m guessing it’s comedy Anne Hathaway maybe or Rachel McAdams – both can do comedy and are reasonable age to play the bride. Can’t think of other of the top of my head.

    • amanda bynes would be perfect

  3. Perfect actress would be Amanda Seyfried

  4. Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Rachel McAdams. Please stop with these overused actresses. The three of them are incredibly annoying and the first two are extremely overrated… extremely. Give me new talent, please.

  5. Ok I’m ready to leave Earth now.

  6. They better get Nancy Travis back too. The film would feel a kinda off without her. And they should totally get some unknown actress. The draw of the film would be the nostalgia of the original and the re-teaming of Selleck/Guttenberg/Danson, not the girl who’s getting married.

  7. I would love them to make a third! Nothing makes me feel like a kid more than “Three Men and a Baby.”

As for the actress, I think Carey Mulligan could do nicely. Get her hair back to mousy brown, maybe grow it out a little. She could do well in the role. Too bad the actress who played Mary in “Three Men and a Little Lady” hasn’t acted since the early nineties.

  8. Why? Has there been some clamoring to make this a drawn out trilogy that I’m unaware of. Why not let sleeping dogs lie and actually try to come up with an original idea?

  9. 790,Dont leave Earth, The sequels and remakes are worse on Mars!

  10. Lol Gary.

It just that the family values of Disney disgust me so.

    • To Disney…..”Family values” equals $$$$$$$. Thus is Tron a supposed big deal. Only $$$$$$.

  11. I hope they bring back the cardboard kid.

  12. To be honest, I am looking forward to see this movie on the big screen. I enjoyed the two previous films and a third one, with this kind of theme, would be a very nice way to tie things up.

As for Mary character…I don’t know…perhaps it will be better if they cast a newcomer for the role.

  13. Amazing how you can cast just the right 3 male actors and this is considered a family film.

Disneys colors are showing with this one,,,

    8-O

    • @790

LOL, I love the trademark symbol. Nice touch. :-P

      Vic

  14. i think Mila Kunis would be a good fit since she’s not over used and has a resume of comedy rolls.

  15. Cast the original baby from the 1st movie! Michelle Blair who with her twin sister played the baby in the original movie will be married herself this fall on September 25th, 2010 in Kitchener, ON.

  16. Lindsay Lohan!

  17. .

We were just watching the first movie, Three Men and a Baby, tonight. While the visuals (ie clothes and music) is a bit dated, the story is still funny and very sweet. Sometimes the world needs that.

    .

  18. It really does NOT matter who they bring in to play the “Bride” as the reunion of Selleck/Guttenberg/Danson would make the movie anyway. I would see the movie just for Tom Selleck myself. Sorry but I suggest giving an actress NEW to the scenes a chance bacause these “HOTTIES” are going to steal the screen with this one!
