thor header Thor Updates: Production Schedule

After the major announcement two weeks ago of Sir Anthony Hopkins signing on to Thor as the title character’s father, Odin, we now have most of the principal characters cast, albeit with a few secrets yet to be revealed.

According to Production Weekly’s Twitter postings, the next Marvel Studios solo character film is nearing the start of principal photography and they’ve hammered down the shooting locations. Check out the details below.

Filming on Marvel’s “Thor” is scheduled to begin in LA mid-January, then move to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March till late-April.

Not only is it great news that my most anticipated Marvel character film is well on its way, but this means that next summer we’ll likely get a Marvel panel presentation (and footage!) for Thor at San Diego Comic-Con. That’s something that I cannot miss, similar to this year’s awesome Iron Man 2 panel which was easily one of the top presentations of the event.

With all of these great and highly positive Thor announcements over the last several months, I still wonder when we’re going to start seeing that for Thor’s Earthbound buddy, Steve Rogers. We still haven’t heard any casting updates on The First Avenger: Captain America but the film is set to release also in summer, 2011 (Along with other major comic book properties Green Lantern, Spider-Man 4 and possibly another X-Men film).

The last we did hear on the Cap front was from Marvel Chief Joe Quesada who revealed that they have a short “wishlist” of actors they want to portray the star-spangled Avenger. Perhaps we’ll get another major announcement over the holiday season?

The film is helmed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Stellan Skarsgård,  Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander,  Colm Feore, and… Stan Lee!

Are you excited knowing that the God of Thunder is coming soon?

Stay tuned for more Thor goodies here at Screen Rant!

Thor opens in theaters May 20, 2011 and I’ll be there. The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled to open July 22, 2011,

  1. I know nothing about the Thor comics, but the cast is amazing for this, and it sounds far more interesting than the thought of another terrible Spiderman or Green Lantern.

  2. Thor cannot come soon enough! I need a teaser trailer.

  3. Giggity, giggidty!

  4. This is probably my most anticipated movie for Summer 2011. I’m very eager to see what Branagh will bring to the Marvel Universe.

I am wondering why there hasn’t been ANY concrete news on Captain America yet. I have a strong suspicion that it might get pushed back to 2012.

  5. The reason for no news on Captain America is simple .
    They dont have a Cap,YET.

  6. Casting Captain America is a big deal, and they will take time over it, dont be surprised if the supporting cast and plot details are released before we find out who will playing Cap.

For me there is only one choice, Aaron Eckhart.

  7. I’ve been waiting 20 years for this movie to be made…

  8. Drsambeckett

Aaron eckhart is a great choice but I don’t see him wanting the role of Cap for some reason.

  9. @DrSamBeckett

that is a pretty nice casting call but I believe that Sam Worthington should get the role. He acted off Bale in T4 and he’s also coming out in Avatar, and Clash of the Titans (I’m more excited for Clash though) and he has the perfect body phsyique (no homo intended) and some serious acting skills.

  10. Yes, Thor is finally coming! Maybe we’ll get a little teaser attached to Iron Man 2 next summer? I think the cast is great and everything we’ve heard so far of the film has been awesome too.

On the other side, I had almost completely forgot about Cap. Maybe it’s because Joe Johnston is still working on The Wolfman? I’ve got a feeling we’ll start hearing some serious Cap news and announcements by February, once that film is released.

  11. @Eli P

Did you just mention Avatar to DrSamBeckett???

    Now you’ve done it!!

:-D Just joking with you Sam. I don’t really see Eckhart for the role myself, but I’m not really huge into comics so I could be completely wrong about my perception of him…

  12. Avatar!!!!! Boo hiss!!!!!

  13. anthony hopkins!
that’s exactly who i mentioned for the part last year in the imdb chats. what a shock to see they chose him. and here i thought nobody listened to me…
now i would like to see who they choose for the warriors three.
    bring it!

  14. @ roger,

quickly, give us your predictions for the Warrior’s Three!

    :)

  15. lol, i don’t think i was clever enough to pick those guys..but anthony hopkins seemed like a good guess in a zeus kinda way..
    but that’s a good question..any other takers?

  16. Speaking of Roger… Let’s talk some more Cap… I really don’t think they can pick a non-american to be Captain America; therefore who the heck has the acting chops to lead the rest of the avenger crew?

  17. Sam

I would go with a relatively unknown for Cap like they are doing with Thor. Yeah hemsworth was in star trek for ten minutes but nobody really knew about him before that one scene. They can make it work with an actor that has a serious tone to him and is a decent actor.

  18. i know this may be way out there but, what about Cristian Kane (Leverage/Angel) as CAP ????

    till next time

  19. I think Gene Simmons needs a cameo in this film since he is the true God of Thunder!

  20. I just don’t know how this can be any better. Brilliant!

  21. Could someone help me out? Someone please give me a summarized explanation about the deal with Captain Marvel(the ONLY character from both Marvel and DC), The Flash, and Ms. Marvel all sporting the lightning bolt. The Flash I can understand. But what’s with the word Marvel and lightning? Or is it just random craziness

  22. and oh jeez the little twilight people just made vampires ahead of zombies. Say it ain’t so, Weezer.

  23. To me they ought to open Captain America on July the 4th! It’s Independence Day, its Captain America they go hand in hand, at least they should any way. What do you guys think????

  24. “Dave”

that would be great but studio executives aren’t that smart unfortunately.

  25. (waves to everyone) thank you so much for your help really i appreciate it
