When Portman was cast as Jane Foster, Marvel’s official press release read:
Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present-day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
If he’s cast down to Earth, and assuming director Kenneth Branagh isn’t completely abandoning that specific aspect of the Thor comics, then Blake must be in the movie in my estimation. That, or story thread is being heavily altered for the film’s sake.
Either way, this movie will be awesome and I’ve been looking forward to it for years. With all of these casting announcements gaining praise and helping the movie gain popularity, Thor is finally getting the attention it deserves. It is the solo character movie I look forward to most from Marvel Studios.
The film is helmed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Stellan Skarsgård, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and… Stan Lee!
How do you like them Golden Apples? (Thor reference).
Thor hits theaters May 20, 2011 and you know I’ll be there.
