Of Marvel Studios’ two headlining superheroes fighting for box office dominance in 2011′s crowded summer of major film releases, Thor came out swinging first. Taking the prized summer opening release date of the first weekend of May, only to be followed by Captain America: The First Avenger two months later, Thor was the first to be introduced to the world with 5 minutes of footage at last summer’s Comic-Con and later, the first official Thor trailer.

Since being introduced to the characters and story of Thor early, Captain America has been stealing his thunder ever since, starting with the first official images of Chris Evans in Captain America costume, then the long awaited Captain America Super Bowl TV Spot. Now, Thor is back with an impressive second full trailer.

Yahoo! Movies debuted the new Thor trailer moments ago and it’s something you certainly do not want to miss. It features almost entirely never-before-seen footage, focusing on the literal and physical impact Thor’s banishment to Earth has on his new human friends.

Watch and enjoy:

The slower pace of the new Thor trailer emphasizes more of the story and title character’s introduction to his Earthly allies. We also get to see larger scale shots of the beautiful Asgard and the Rainbow Bridge, Loki being truly evil and anti-human, Colm Feore’s Frost Giant speaking and most cool of all, Anthony Hopkins in battle as Odin.

As much as I’m digging the work Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Studios have done on Thor, it’s almost ruined by the inclusion of Kat Dennings’ character who’s only there, from this trailer and her words at Comic-Con, as a desperate attempt to appease tween audiences.. We even get a Facebook reference in this trailer… Hopefully there’s more to her character.

From the rest of the trailer however, you can see how Thor is #2 on Screen Rant’s 20 most anticipated films of 2011.

  1. throughly impressed

  2. im still on edge on this one

  3. O_O ……. that is all

  4. That trailer left a far better taste in my mouth than the cliche action-filled first trailer. This might actually be a solid movie. I know I’ll be there opening day.

  5. There is only one word that can describe this, EPIC

  6. EPIC. Kat Dennings…I think there’s more to her character in the story other than comic relief.

  7. Very, very sweet.

    • I read in my new gameinformer magazine that the Norse Gods will be explained as Aliens with technological knowledge far beyond humans that makes them appear as Gods. So, now we have a Marvel/Disney produced movie that is rewriting the mythos of Thor’s whole origins. I call Foul, and this must be known by all true Thor fans, and Marvel comic’s fanboys. Please screenrant, we need to investigate.

  8. Really good trailer. I’m still not seeing it in 3D.

  9. Giggedy.

  10. what the hell is that huge thing at the end?

    • King of the Frost Giants I believe. I have the Thor script (which comicbookmovie.com provided until Paramount Pictures told the site to remove it upon their request). Anyone want it? =)

      • Cross that. Colm Feore is the frost giant king.

      • Ill take a gander at it… BTW, do you know where to get the deadpool sqript? i heard it was really good…

        • yea ill read it if you have somwhere i can download it off the net. and i just googled “leaked deadpool script”

        • If they keep the Deadpool script it will be the “Reservoir Dogs” of comic movies! I would send it to you but I had to replace my hard drive.

      • Jeremy, wasn´t it confirmed that the Thor script was fan made? Either way, I´d like to read it. Do you have a link?

    • The Midgard Serpent perhaps.

      • Unfortunately, I read in my new gameinformer magazine that the Norse Gods will be explained as Aliens with technological knowledge far beyond humans that makes them appear as Gods. We now have a Marvel/Disney produced movie that is rewriting the mythos of Thor’s whole origins. I call Foul, and this must be known by all true Thor fans, and Marvel comic’s fanboys. 11. Awesome

  12. “Another One!” *Shatters coffee mug on the ground*
haha that was awesome! Really looking forward to this

  13. Definitely makes the film look better than the first trailer did. Looking forward to this more now.

    Vic

  14. The Destroyer is awesome. Kinda reminds me of Gort.

  15. Just because he is throwing his Hammer does not mean it needed to be in 3D just look at the backlash Clash of the Titans received for its crummy post production 3D
Still this trailer makes me think this one could actually be better than expected

  16. Also who is that Girl? At what point did someone think Natalie Portman needed an annoying teen sidekick? It’s not as if Portman is pushing middle age and the facebook reference ruins a perfectly good funny scene. Smashing a cup of coffee and demanding another is funny…putting it on facebook is not…. the Iron Man social network reference was funny because people do post pictures of themselves and famous people on facebook… however been annoying comedy relief does not and can ruin a film MARVEL there is a good reason the Twin autobots aren’t in the advert for transformers 3!!!!!

    • shes probably there to make thor see the value of human life in a child you know to give him more of a connection to humanity

    • People also post visors of people doing funny stuff on facebook too ;).

  17. The more I see, the more I’m liking the looks of Thor. I think Kenneth Branagh has done an excellent job with it. The humor feels well-balanced here. Hope it holds up just as well in the full film. That scene where he breaks the coffee mugs is great. Yes, Thor, I too love a good cup of coffee. haha

  18. I’m so gonna bust out that coffee cup move next time I order a tasty beverage ;).

  19. its growing on me i must say

  20. I think that a half a second of odin thrusting a spear would hardly be cosidered “him in action”

    • That’s what I was thinking. I missed it on the first viewing it was so brief.

      • I too had to watch it again… But all in all… This movie looks good…

When I first herd that they are making a Thor and Captian America movie for the Avengers, I thought that if one was gonna fail, it would be thor, since hes nothing like hulk, iron man, or any other character in the upcoming avengers movie… But so far, it looks damned impressive…

Made a believer out of me…

So glad they added the destroyer in this too, Loki would be good by himself, but the destroyer would bring action in this movie, and a lot of it!!!

Hopefully they dont have all those villians (frost giants, loki, destroyer…) mashed up like they did in Spider Man 3…

  21. I have *SPOILERS* when it comes to Avengers goodies. Don’t look below if you don’t want to know.

    ***

    **

    SPOILERS BELOW

    **

    ***

    - Tesseract
    - Dr. Pym is mentioned
    - Gamma Radiation info taken by SHIELD, Professor Selvig says
    - Agent Coulson takes Jane’s research data
    - Hawkeye/Clint Barton is a sniper that Coulson calls upon to take down Thor
    - Agent Coulson mentions HYDRA to Thor during his questioning
    - Jane Foster’s research devices have STARK INDUSTRIES on it

  22. Wow, you guys took the words right out of my mouth about Kat Dennings…

  23. Was Thor actually filmed in 3D or will it be post-converted (a la crappy 3D movies)? Anyone know??

    • They said it’s high quality post production, which is supposed to be better than 3D cams. We’ll see.

      • Oh that’s B.S. PR talk right there. I don’t care HOW good post is, it’s never as good as shot in 3D.

        Vic

        • I agree, if it’s a conversion, I’ll stick with 2D.

    • Crappy 3D conversion. Yuck!

  24. This and Cappy are probably the movies I most hope are worth a look. I really want Marvel to knock this massive multi-film plot out of the park.

  25. way better than the first trailet we got. cant wait :)

  26. Wow. Best trailer out of al of them. Seeing Hopkins fight in that armor made me cheer the most. I’m looking forward to this 100%.

I’m not entirely sure but I think that creature at the end is Mandog. Looks like him except more gray and monstrous.

    • I read this in the new gameinformer magazine; The Norse Gods will be explained as Aliens with technological knowledge far beyond humans that makes them appear as Gods. So, now we have a Marvel/Disney produced movie that is rewriting the mythos of Thor’s whole origins. I call Foul, and this must be known by all true Thor fans, and Marvel comic’s fanboys. Please screenrant, we need to investigate.

      • I hope it IS TRUE just to tick you off. Enough with the troll-like reposts in nearly every comment.

      • As much as I love the comics, I have to say that the original story line to Thor would have not worked well on big screen. They had to adapt to the modern age society and I think they did a superb job on doing just that.

  27. Yep. Cheesy and the SFX look terrible and Hemsworth seems like he is bit wooden at times.

That’s it….Marvel has shot their wads with Thor. Is that the best they can muster?

This movie will not be anything special. I’ll pass until it is shown on the Sci Fi channel or StarZ.

    • If you are comparing this to what is on SyFy, what a sad life yours must be.

      • The funny thing is….the SFX did look cheap and cheesy toward the end of that trailer. Ugh.

Another overhyped Marvel movie, that will end up being average at best.

        • It might be over-hyped, but you can not possibly compare this to ANYTHING on SyFy.

    • Sorry, it was hard to get a REAL Frost Giant on such short notice. Plus the Governmental ban on magical creatures makes importing one from Asgard a paperwork nightmare.

      • Guys, guys – go easy… I have to admit that I also thought the frost giant looked a bit… unfinished.

        Vic

    • Glad that you aren’t going to be in the theater ruining what is surely to be a great movie-watching experience. This movie looks awesome.

  28. Looks good, and I chuckled at the Facebook refecence.

  29. I hope they keep some of his arrogance for The Avengers, I can already imagine Thor clashing with Tony’s own cockiness…..

    • And clashing with Hulk. :-)
