WARNING: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok.

-

During a Thor: Ragnarok interview with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, an Australian TV host spoils a major reveal from the Marvel film. Hemsworth made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the God of Thunder in Kenneth Branagh's Phase 1 film, Thor. The actor then joined forces with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Joss Whedon's The Avengers - which also served as Ruffalo's debut as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk. Thor has gone on to lead a second entry in his solo franchise, Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World, and reunite with his Earth-bound team of superheroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, while many of his fellow Avengers appeared in Captain America: Civil War, both Thor and Hulk were absent.

Instead, the God of Thunder and the Hulk will star in Marvel's third film to release this year, Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Thor will face off against the Goddess of Death, Hela (Cate Blanchett), but will lose both Asgard and his trusty hammer Mjolnir. In order to defeat Hela, Thor will assemble his own off-brand Avengers team, named the Revengers, that will include Hulk, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and new character Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). While there's plenty we still don't know about Thor: Ragnarok - Marvel is famous for keeping spoilers tightly under wraps, after all - one big reveal has accidentally leaked.

During an interview on Australian talk show The Project, one of the hosts asked Hemsworth and Ruffalo a question about one of the characters in Thor: Ragnarok - but the question spoils what seems to be a major reveal about that character. That section of the interview starts around the 6:20 mark in the video below (this is your final SPOILER WARNING regarding this Thor: Ragnarok reveal).

While asking a question about Hela, The Project host mentions not once, but two or three times, that the Goddess of Death is Thor's sister - and Hemsworth visibly cringes. Eventually, Hemsworth cuts off the host, saying, "You can’t say it’s his sister. You can’t give that away." Ruffalo tries to make the situation a little lighter by saying in Pig Latin, "Ixnay on the istersay." Hemsworth proceeds to ask whether The Project is live and makes a joke about rewinding the tape. However, since the show was live and the video is available online, it seems the damage of this spoiler being revealed has already been done.

Of course, Hela being related to Thor and Loki isn't out of left field, since she's supposedly the daughter of Loki in the comics, which would make Thor her uncle. Still, Hela being Thor's sister undoubtedly provides context for her attack on Asgard. If she's Thor's older sister, then her motivation for conquering Asgard is likely rooted in it being her birthright to rule.

That being said, the specifics around Hela's relationship to Thor, and the legitimacy of her claim to the Asgardian throne, has yet to be fully revealed - and given that the tidbit about Hela being Thor's sister leaked early, Marvel will no doubt be even more strict about spoilers going forward. So, fans will likely need to wait until Marvel's latest film premieres before finding out exactly what motivates Hela to destroy Asgard and how this aspect of her character is developed throughout the movie. Thankfully, there are only a few more weeks until Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters, so fans will find out soon enough.
