New theater standees have leaked for this winter’s Thor: Ragnarok, giving us good new looks as the heroes and villains of the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With Marvel’s presence at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday night and no other major movies coming out in the near future, it seems almost guaranteed that the marketing push for Thor: Ragnarok will begin very shortly. With a new trailer expected today and several subsequent TV spots and featurettes surely to follow, the superhero studio juggernaut is about to make sure that we see a lot more of Thor’s third solo adventure ahead of the November release date.
One of the most obvious places to start that push is in the movie theaters across the world, and a collection of new Thor: Ragnarok standees that will be displayed in a multitude of theaters have been leaked. Courtesy of the Twitter page of Brazilian movie news outlet Popcorn Station, we get a glimpse at the character-specific standees that could potentially be featured in your local theaters in the next couple of months. We get further good looks at the characters of the threequel, giving us new promotional images of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Karl Urban’s Skurge, Cate Blanchett’s Hela, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and Jeff Goldblum’s The Grandmaster:
These standees are probably the best official images of the characters that we’ve gotten yet, especially of Karl Urban’s Skurge. While the other characters were featured fairly prominently in the first trailer for the film, Skurge’s presence flew by in a quick shot of him in hardcore action mode. Here, we get a good look at all of the intricacies of his costuming, with his black armor and peculiar haircut most likely being the aspects of his character grasping the attention of the common passerby at the theater.
These standees aren’t the first official images we’ve gotten of any of the characters, but they are detailed and are straight-on images, allow for close examination beyond what we’ve gotten before. For example, it was hard to notice the red detailing on half of Thor’s wardrobe when he’s in motion, most likely a result of his time in the gladiator ring. Loki’s completely blue outfit, different than the green motif that the character sported in the past, signals a direction shift for the character that should be interesting to see. And while the outfit was always majestic for The Grandmaster, Jeff Goldblum’s scheming and confident pose really highlights just how alien and “out-there” a lot of the elements of Thor: Ragnarok have a potential to be when it finally hits theaters this November.
