Marvel Studios is currently in the business of getting the most recognizable names in Hollywood to join the MCU. Taking a look at some of their most recent castings will prove that they are being fairly successful in doing so, and one of those names would be Cate Blanchett. Blanchett is playing Hela, the villain in Thor: Ragnarok, which will be the second time that the main antagonist in a Marvel film is a woman. Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha is going to get the title of being first thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but there seems to be more excitement at this point about Blanchett's involvement.

For her first appearance in the MCU, she will be paired up with director Taika Waititi and co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, and many more. Ragnarok is in the final weeks or even days of production, which means Blanchett could have already finished her role and it sounds like she had a blast.

In an interview with EW, Blanchett was asked about her experience on her first Marvel project. Ruffalo has previously described Hela as being "the worst of the worst" and when she learned about these comments, she revealed she did not work a lot with Ruffalo directly, but praised Waititi's take on the property:

Did he say that? Well, he’s the greenest of the green! I didn’t get to work so much with Mark, unfortunately. But I did get to work with Chris [Hemsworth] and talk about delightful! He’s just absolutely fabulous. The whole thing was just a riot and fantastic fun. Did you see [director] Taika Waititi’s film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople? Or, What We Do in the Shadows? He’s just got such a sure hand. He’s wonderful — I’d eat him for breakfast if I could. He’s absolutely delicious. And he’s irreverent which is great because Marvel, at its best, has its tongue firmly in its cheek.

While she did not get to film with Ruffalo a lot, she did spend a lot of time with Thor himself. Thor himself may be the god of thunder, but Blanchett really enjoyed the time she got to spend with him on and off camera:

He is a big guy! But, you know, you get on the Avengers/Marvel bandwagon — they’re making so many of these behemoths at once — he doesn’t have any time to sort of get chubby. I do love Chris in these movies — he has that really playful side of him that he gets to truck out.

Fans have yet to see a real look at Blanchett in the role, with only blurry looks from set photos and the silhouette of her costume in concept art. With the movie still being over a year away, it could be a while before any official look at the character is released. In the meantime, Blanchett playing the villain should be an exciting prospect for fans.

Likewise, it is good to hear her singing the praises of Waititi as the director. This is his first big budget film and it sounds from her perspective at least that he knocked it out of the park. Hopefully she does not actually eat Waititi so he can stick around for potentially more installments in the MCU - though how well Ragnarok is received will decide whether or not that will be the case.
