BLAKHART says:

Pitt is an interesting choice. The above mentioned character description brings to mind Pitt’s role as Achilles in TROY. When I saw TROY I thought more of Cap though, did’t know Thor would have a movie at the time. McKidd is also interesting. I liked his role in Kingdom of Heaven.

Bill Blume says:

I’m relieved it’s not Kevin McKidd… and I don’t mean that as a slight against him. I think he’s too good for the role of Thor. Not that I didn’t enjoy some of the issues in this series, but Thor just never has been one of my favorite characters, because I find him a little too two-dimensional as a character. Some writers have managed to bring more to him over the years, but not enough to make me a big fan.

McKidd rocked in Rome! I really miss that show.

Quicksilver says:

how young do they want to go? i mean mckidd himself could pass for 27 years old. personally i don’t think he is good for the part because he looks too young. do they want someone who looks like a kid to play thor? is this movie based on a teenage thor. i sure hope not. Triple H is thor. he has the hair, the looks (with or without beard), the body frame, the height, and the man can act. He was excellent in the last Blade movie. i mean come on, thor wears a mesh armor; because o this his muscles rip through. why are they going for actors who look like they are allergic to the gym? for once, i would like them to pic an actor who not only looks the part but also has the body for the part. Triple H is the man for this roll, and again I repeat, HE CAN ACT!

Quicksilver says:

I think that is exactly why they may have thought about going with mckidd as thor, simply becuase he was in Rome, which, in itself, has a similiar setting and time period.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

@Bill Blume
That’s why his character works soo well. Thor is a warrior who sees situations in black and white. Because of his arrogance going into the land of the frost giants, Odin punished him by sending him to earth to live as a human. Over the years, Thor has realized that all situations are not black or white but there are shades of gray. I believe this could be an epic movie if done right.

greenknight333 says:

Whether you agree or not with me on this ..here is the perfect Thor regardless of age

Vladimir Kulich from the 13th Warrior who played Buliwyf..chack out thew pic below…And I don’t think he is too old even if he was born in 56..He still looks the part..

Cheers

Quicksilver says:

i’ve seen him, greenie. he looks like thor. frankly with makeup and all they could young him up just a bit. but why go through all of that when Triple H has everything for the part. he’s not too old, yet he is not too young. he has all of the package needed for thor as I stated in 4 postings ago. besides, the studios would save lots of money.

Ken J says:

I’m sorry, I can’t take pro wrestlers too seriously. I like Dwayne Johnson, but only for comedic action rols like The Rundown. I don’t think I will be able to take him seriously if he tried to do a completely serious role…

rawpower05 says:

Charlie Hunnam from Sons of anarchy would play a good thor. A good Cap would be Daniel Craig or Brad pitt.

Ken J says:

I think Tom Jane would look good as Cpt. America.

Frank T says:

I think Brad would be good he did a great job as Achilles if he can wield that sword like that I think he can definately rock Mjolnir. I think John Cena could play a good Captain America with a little more acting classes he can pull it off.

Adrian says:

Gabriel Macht could be a good Captian America even though he was the lead in the train wreck know as “The Spirit” or my favorite 2 picks Matt Damon or Thomas Jane.

greenknight333 says:

NO WRESTLERS as superheroes…Geez HHH was AWFUL in Blade:Trinity and I mean he gave a whole new definition to the term hack…John Cena as Captain AMerica, I don`t see that either..again he looks the part with the steroid, muscle- up frame but I saw the Marine(ashamed to admit that) and he CAN`T ACT !! This genre will loose all credibility if these “entertainers“ are given roles like Thor and Captain AMerica…

Adrian

I think your choice of Macht would be ideal for Captain AMerica..geez I`d even take Daniel Craig for that role over wrestlers…

Ken J says:

That’s what we need, a British actor to play Cpt. America…

Quicksilver says:

if we were in charge of the casting here on this blog, it is clear that triple h wouldn’t get picked for thor. however, if not triple h then someone who looks like triple, who looks like thor. but i think some of you are saying no to triple h simply because wrestling itself is scripted. either way, triple h looks like thor, has the right height (6′4), the right body, the right face (with or without beard).

Ken J says:

@quicksilver

And if it were just for some still photos as Thor, then maybe he would be perfect. But unfortunately it is live action so that means he has to talk, and act…

Quicksilver says:

@Ken J

you’re stereotyping, Ken J. You’re assuming that he cannot act simply because he is a wrestler. the man can act. i personally would not have recommended him if he couldn’t. it wouldn’t make sense now would it?. i mean, what’s the point of having the look, but unable to act the part? besides that’s what rehearsals are for anyway. this is not a woody allen movie where actors are required to do only one take per scene. but i repeat triple H can act. Logic would dictate that since wrestling itself is scripted, it then would require a good degree of acting. But forget that. triple H has done big budget movies before, and if his acting skills were questionable i don’t think he would have been tapped (seveal times) by hollywood for the big roles he has played.

Frank T says:

I said John Cena as Captain America because his John Cena character is already very patriotic and because he is phisically perfect for it I mean lets be honest Super Soldier program is in fact Steroids enhanced if this was reality. I also agree that wrestlers act all their lives in so really they are actors, Hunter would look cool as Thor even though I doubt he would be picked he has a very viking looking face to rugged thor is a very good looking man god like. I would love to see HHH play a viking though that would be awesome.

greenknight333 says:

Ah Ken

What difference does it make where Macht is from to play Captain AMerica..He can act and he looks the part..then why not…I don’t think he will be going throught the movie as Captain AMerica with a british accent..

Hugh Jackman is Australian and he played Wolverine…Storm was African and was played by Berry..Eric Bana is Australian and he played an American Banner in the first Hulk..Does CA have to be an American actor to be more authentic IYO?

Ken J says:

The others you named are not the same, his NAME is Cpt. AMERICA, the others just happened to be what they were, their whole identity didn’t revolve around it. That’s like having a Chinese person win Ms. America in a pageant. Why bother naming that person after the country if they’re not going to be from it?

Bill Blume says:

@Ken…
I’ve been a big fan of Captain America for a long time, so who they cast is important to me, but the notion that the actor has to be an American really seems unimportant to. As long as the actor can do the part justice, then where he comes from is irrelevant. The guy would have to ditch the foreign accent, but let’s not forget that part of what makes this country what it is… is the fact it’s a melting pot of different cultures. That latter detail really makes the nationality of the one cast irrelevant. Perhaps the oddest example of this truth is the film “Independence Day.” Easily one of the most awesome, American, patriotic-sounding scores… and it was composed by a Brit (David Arnold, to be exact).

btw, I really am behind… until I started digging through the previous entries here on Thor, I didn’t realize Kenneth Branagh was directing this film. Darn! Now, I am gonna have to see it. I think he really does a nice job with his films (”Henry V” and “Dead Again” are absolute classics), so I’m curious to see what he’d do with this material.

Ken J says:

Well I’m less speaking as a Cpt. America fan as a highly patriotic American. I believe 100% in the SENTIMENT of the patriotism as much as the quality of the film itself. Meaning I would like it if the cast of the film with the word America in it to be American for real and that the actor playing him be all-American, not just in heritage but in spirit. Meaning even IF the actor is American, I would like one that is very pro-American in real life. None of these American celebrities that bad mouth America every chance they get. Screw them, I say if they hate America so much they should leave. I 100% believe in the rule that you must be a born American to be president of this country, even though I myself would be disqualified for that reason. I don’t want it so that everybody and their mothers from every country can come here and be our president. Again, this is kind of sentimental because there are a lot of people that come into this country as immigrants that love this country more than some people who were born here. I consider myself something to that degree. But I see it as a slippery slope, that’s all.

Frank T says:

Ok how did us talking about actors for a role of a fictional character turn into one of us speaking about race and presidents. I really could give a crap who plays him as long as the guy does a good job. Another thing to keep in mind is that a movie sometimes blows not because of the actor but because of the script or the horrible cgi work and so forth.

Skarsgard for Asgard!

6´5, 32 years old but looks younger, scandinavian, blonde, relatively unknown(good thing), Daddy Skarsgard for Odin.

nar says:

nathan fillion should be captain america…

Ruby Red says:

As much as it “strings” disappoints me that Actor Kevin McKidd (perfect for the part/awesome Actor, too) won’t be playing The Mighty Viking God THOR: I certainly do wish MARVEL Universe the best in finding their right man for this esteem role. May it be someone (search for him in Scandinavia! There’s mighty powerful, strong Hearted men there, too…’that’s where THOR root base lays/Asgaard) that has a strong “presence/essence” & a deep “desire/passion” of bringing THOR to mighty life on the big screen. Peace!

Ken J says:

LOL @ nar

Oh wait, not sure if you’re serious or not…

nar says:

@ken j

captain america is a symbol…and i do agree with you when you say you don’t want one of these anti-american actors playing him. outside of aaron eckhart…i can’t think of another actor i’d want to play captain america. i really don’t see him doing any more comic movies anytime soon so i said nathan fillion, because i know that he would appreciate the character and he has the acting chops and charisma to pull capt. off. i think him and robert downey, jr. would play off each other wonderfully…

in my perfect world i’d have eckhart as capt, fillion as hawkeye, and mckidd as thor…but unfortunately many actors and hollywood executives don’t understand how deep and powerful comic driven characters and storylines are.

laugh all you want…fillion would be a better capt. than jane…

Ken J says:

LOL, you missed it then, I thought you were someone who posted something on another article. Someone in another article was just ranting about why people recommend Nathan Fillion for everything. Someone else was saying that it doesn’t happen and he’s complaining about nothing. I thought you were one of them coming here to say that just to spark a reaction, lol.

i am so excited about this movie! the one to watch!
