New Thor TV spots New Thor TV Spots Tear Up The Small Screen

Warner Bros/DC Comics’ Green Lantern made quite the splash at WonderCon over the weekend, but Marvel isn’t done garnering attention for its own upcoming superhero flick, Thor. The hammer-wielding warrior is prepped to make his big screen debut in just over a month, and hopes to leave a good impression on fans and casual moviegoers alike.

Marvel has unleashed another pair of Thor television spots to go with the recently-unveiled first clip, previous TV adverts, and the horde of posters sent out in promotion of the fantastical adventure pic.

Thor will kick the Summer 2011 movie season into action and showcase the titular character’s (Chris Hemsworth) transformation from stubborn and arrogant “god” to humbled defender of humanity. Along for the ride are the likes of Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Dr. Jane Foster, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and several other noteworthy talents.

While director Kenneth Branagh did not shoot Thor in 3D, it has been converted to the format in post-production and will also be screened in IMAX 3D – as well as good old-fashioned 2D. We’ve seen some cool bits of footage that should look great in 3D -┬áincluding the God of Thunder’s arrival on Earth and the “Mjolnir Vision” shots (so to speak) – but the glistening colors of the film will probably benefit from being glimpsed in just two dimensions. Just my thought, of course.

Check out the new Thor TV spots (via TheMovieBox.net) below:

The sets, costumes, and CGI in Thor all look top notch, so the visuals alone make this worth checking out on the big screen. It’s also fun to see Hemsworth getting to not only literally lay the smackdown on his foes, but also run his mouth off a bit as well. Quite fitting for the God of Thunder, and yet another indication that Hemsworth nails the character in the film.

Thor arrives in theaters next month on May 6th. How is it looking to you?

  1. these spots just got me even more excited! the cg look really good, can’t wait to see Asgard.

  2. Not watching anymore spots. Don’t want to see more until it’s on the big screen. Same with Cap, XMen & GL. They’ve sold me, now it’s a waiting game.

    • And can we get that time machine fixed so we don’t have to wait anymore? :-D

      • I’m getting to old to be wishing for time to go any faster. :)

        • Then my solution would still work, as you would still be the same age when you arrive. Oh, wait, I see your point. :-P

  3. embedding disabled by request. :(

    • Try it now – should be working. :-)

  4. Im of the same mind INK , Im good I know what i need to know and have seen all i need to see. Let the movies roll!

  5. From top to bottom, here is my most anticipated:

    1. Thor
    2. Green Lantern
    3. Captain America
    4. Harry Potter
    5. X-Men: First Class
    6. Cowboys and Aliens
    7. Transformers
    8. Fast Five
    9. Breaking Dawn (How’d that get in there) :-)

    • Breaking Dawn should have been in first place… LOL

I’m a little iffy about the order for #6, #7 and #8, but over all I agree.

      • Since you’re Da’ Hulk, whatever you say is fine with me. :-D

Yeah, I thought about those 3 for a while. I do what to see them but they are definitely not in my top 5.

        • I meant, I do want to see them.

          Dogone coffee! :-)

    • Im too confused and mixed up about what I think will be good so I cant rate them. Doh. (I noticed you didnt put Superman in your list)

Btw, what is Thor saying after he says “Your big”? I cant make it out.

      • Superman doesn’t come out until 2012.

        • I thought I missed 2011 for a second. :-)

    • lol wtf breakin down thats gonna suck …

  6. They are showing waaaay too much of this movie, just like they did for Revenge of the Fallen.

    • That’s why I stopped watching clips after I was sold on the movie.

    • It worked for Iron Man (the first movie) – remember when we were all sick and tired of the ads for it? But they did the job – the movie brought in people. They’re hoping for the same thing with Thor, I think.

Gotta do it with superheroes that aren’t too widely known.

  7. “You’re big. I’ve fought bigger.” Best.Line.Ever (or so far). This summer between movies and gas, I’m going to be a poor man.

    • How does having a gastro-intestinal disorder make you poor? :-)

      • …all the Rolaids and Tums…

        :P

      • toliet paper expenses my good man…and plumbers ;)

  8. I dont know about others on here, but in Illinois/Indiana the movie theaters dont have good popcorn, not like the old days.

I did find a place that makes it with the old coconut oil like they did a long time ago, the Shell gas station/mini marts have it. Get it there and hide in your coat or whatever, and sneak it into the theater. :)

    It’s much cheaper too.

    • The prices they charge at the concession stands are outragious! For the price of a soda, you could buy an entire six pack. I have spent about the same amount of money for a Red Lobster dinner that I do for popcorn and a drink. Ridiculous!

      • I heard the movie companies squeeze the theaters hard and they dont make anything on the movies, but their profits come from the snacks.

I hate to take away from their bottom line, but it’s either I sneak my own snacks in, or I dont go to the theater.

        Ethical conundrum….

        • I don’t sneak it. I usually go during the middle of the week. Mr brother and I get to the mall. We but our tickets. We go to Chic-Fil-A and get our food. Walk right into the theater with our bag of food and drink. No one stops us.

          • “buy” our tickets. Geesh.

            • Thank goodness! For a second I thought you and your brother put tickets in your butts. :-)

              • Only if we liked the movie.

        • Here in Puerto Rico tickets are 5.50 and a popcorn combo its about the same, yet I’ve never heard of popcorn being made with coconut oil and a live in the Caribbean.

          • I mean I live, sorry

  9. It’s odd, for a moment I thought with the first TV spot they were really veering away from the usage of the word “God” at all in saying “there is only one Power of Thunder” (which doesn’t seem as inspiring as God of Thunder) but then they go and say “A God Will Fall and an Avenger will Rise” in the second TV spot. Pfft.

That being said I’m also just waiting the waiting game for the movie to come out already!

  10. Looking better and better.

  11. Wow..I am truly grateful for the many comic book movies that I have an opportunity to view in these coming months.

Thor is looking fantastic. Captain America is truly capturing an awesome historic action vibe.

Green Latern just seems huge and full of other worldly sci-fi action. Even X-Men has managed to look some what interesting.

If executed right, this should be a treat .
