I never get tired of saying it so I’ll say it again; The upcoming production from Marvel known as Thor is my most anticipated character movie in-development from the Disney-owned studio. Read on to see some reasons why this is.

While Thor has been in principal photography since January, there have been very few details released about the movie and we’ve yet to see what any of the characters or sets look like. Heck, we still don’t ever know who some of the actors are playing.

Thanks to our friends at Latino Review, that all changes today due to the exclusive information about Thor they recently shared online. In their report, they discuss the style of the movie, the look of the characters, where in the Marvel movie timeline Thor takes place and last but not least, how Thor gets involved with The Avengers.

Avengers Assemble!

Agent Coulson, a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) who were were introduced to in Iron Man, was played by actor Clark Gregg. As of January, we know that he’ll be back again for Iron Man 2 and that he’ll also be playing a part in Thor. While we know Coulson will be in the movie, we expect other cameos from familar faces such as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and hopefully Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.

These characters, in cross-over appearances, will be what lays the foundation for our favorite heroes coming together in The Avengers. And according to Latino Review, by the end of the Thor movie, Thor lets Agent Coulson know that Asgard and he are there for S.H.I.E.L.D. when need be and that when called upon, he will join when The Avengers assemble.

Asgardian Outerwear

A big aspect of Thor’s uniqueness compared to the other films Marvel Studios is working on is the other-worldly dress code (literally). The mystical realm of Asgard houses viking gods who live in a very different aesthetic than what we’re used to Earth, sporting very different costumes. While we’ve had some hints and ideas about the costumes of Thor, we’ve not had a definitive design presented to us.

To best get an idea of what to expect, I’ve cut out a specific snippet of the response to the question about Thor’s costume and weaponry that actor Chris Hemsworth will get to wield:

“If you look at some of the more recent Thor comics that are out now, the tone and the costuming is that. It’s basically, the way you read the comics now, they’re updated the way they are now and that’s how the costumes are. I think everyone is going to be very, very happy. Nothing looks cheesy or cheap. Everything looks like it’s real. Everything looks like it came from that period. And everything looks right on all the actors.”

The look of the characters is one of the aspects I’m most excited to learn more about and from all accounts (including what I heard in our exclusive interview with Joe Gatt who’s playing a villain in the movie), we’re in for something special.

  1. Sounds like a step in the right direction. Im on board with it all…. and very intrigued by the mentioning of SHIELD making the Hulk disappear. Sounds dramatic and mysterious…. hope it pans out to be a big suprise we dont expect.

yep so theres my 2cents on the table…

  2. I am really looking forward to this film too. Sounds great.

On a side note… we keep hearing about the Avenger's line-up… and talk about Iron Man being told he doesn't have to go solo… but what are the chances of War Machine being part of the Avengers too? I know he isn't an official member of the team in the comics…. but what would be the explanation for not having him on the team when his best buddy is a founding member?

  3. If they are following the comic history accurately, the Avengers are based in New York, and War Machine was/is part of the West Coast Avengers.

Besides Stark foots a mayor part of the bill for the Avengers, and Rhodes/War Machine ends up working for Stark.

  4. A few little sneaky things are going on with Thor.Chris Hemsworth's brother Liam is also in Thor as who? They still have yet to reveal it, I speculate that he will be Baldur. In Asgard it was kept a secret for a long time that Balder or Baldur was Thor's “real” half brother and that sort of became a dramatic scandal. This also explains why Thor and Baldur had a brotherly kind of affection for one another, they both subconsciously felt a stronger connection and respect for each other without knowing why initially. This would be a great sub-story in the movie too. Some real family drama amongst the royal family of Asgard.

  5. Interesting to learn about where Thor fits in the whole movie timeline so far. I can guess, as The Avengers movie draws closer, it'll probably be the responsibility of any preceding movie to point out what events happened when.

I wonder if IM2 and Thor will do much of that, but I can't really think of how except for maybe using SHIELD as the glue to connect everything. It'd be nice if IM2 included or ended with Stark getting news blips about Hulk, but I don't know how that'd fit the continuity. I don't imagine Cap being all that problematic: just break the ice and, wala, 21st century.

  6. I so hope Thor rocks and is made believable like Iron Man.

  7. So the timeline is like this: Captain America> Iron Man> Iron Man 2> The Incredible Hulk> Thor> The Avengers. I'm so excited for Thor.

  8. I think your timeline is accurate.

  9. So S.H.I.E.L.D. makes Hulk disappear, as in capturing Banner and holding hold, as in the first Avengers animated movie. Sounds good. They could also have at the very end of IM2 where Stark (Downey) is talking to Banner (Norton) and convinces him to turn himself in so that SHIELD can find a way to control the Hulk. What I would like to see, but will never happen, is a battle between IM and Hulk with IM finally sedating him and bringing him to SHIELD.

Thor is definately my most anticipated movie for 2011. And Avengers is my most anticipated for the century. Avengers…..rollout!! Oh, wait a minute…. :-)

  10. yes, yes, yes,,,bring it!

  11. LOL… Avengers…..rollout!!

  12. We heard a while back that War Machine would likely appear in The Avengers although to what capacity, we do not yet know.

  13. Captain America is both at the beginning (WW2) and at the end before the Avengers I would guess. I think Stark and the others are there already together when they unfreeze him.

  14. Thank you for all that information.

As a Marvel Thor fan since 1962 I just can't wait for the movie.
