Chris Hemsworth's hammer from the original Thor is one of hundreds of pieces of movie memorabilia to go to auction next month. Thor memorably wields, loses, then reclaims the hammer known as Mjolnir as he proves his worth at the end of his first solo adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The titular hero ultimately proves himself worthy of Mjolnir's immense power through self-sacrifice, which allows him to defeat the "Destroyer" unleashed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and save Earth from its threat.

The hammer has become one of the more valuable props in the MCU as the mega-franchise barrels toward the end of Phase 3, with Thor: Ragnarok coming in November. The hammer also popped up in Avengers: Infinity War set photos, while that film was in production. The prop is expected to fetch a large sum of money when collectors bid on it at an upcoming auction - one that will see the hammer and hundreds of other famous items up for grabs.

As reported by Bleeding Cool , the Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction will feature the original Mjolnir hammer from Thor as one of its top items up for bids. The hammer is expected to sell for 20,000-30,000 pounds (approx. $25,000-40,000). The auction takes place at the BFI IMAX theater, located in the Waterloo district of London, England, on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at noon. There will be a free exhibition of over 250 items open to the public at the same location from Sept. 7-26.

Also expected to sell in the $25,000-40,000 range are Jack Nicholson's Joker costume from Tim Burton's Batman and Ian McKellen's Magneto helmet and tunic from Bryan Singer's first X-Men movie. Other notable items up for auction (and their approx. estimated values) include Peter Quill's Star-Lord helmet from Guardians of the Galaxy ($40,000-65,000); Catwoman's costume ($20,000-25,000) and the Penguin's top hat & gloves ($20,000-25,000) from the original Batman TV series; and Superman's original tunic from Superman IV: The Quest For Peace ($10,000-13,000).

Registration and bidding is available at the Prop Store website. The auction is also expected to be live-streamed online so fans can track bids and auction winners as they are announced. For MCU collectors and Thor fans alike, finding out who wins the original Mjolnir hammer may be a must-see event.

Unfortunately, fans and collectors outside the London area who wish to see the hammer and other props in person would have to travel to Waterloo to make that a reality. But considering that the exhibition in the lead-up to the auction will be free and open to the public, the trip may well be worth making for some.
