A new fan poster for Thor: Love & Thunder imagines Tom Hiddleston returning as Loki. Hiddleston made his MCU debut in 2011's Thor before becoming the main villain in The Avengers the following year. Loki returned in both Thor sequels, The Dark World and Ragnarok, and was then choked to death by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame introduced the first variant of Loki during the time heist in New York, which paved the way for his solo MCU series, Loki.

Loki has yet to be confirmed for Thor: Love & Thunder, but the film is bringing back some major MCU characters. Most notably, Natalie Portman is making her return as Jane Foster after last appearing in Thor: The Dark World in 2013. However, this time around, she will take the mantle of Mighty Thor and wield Mjolnir. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) also looks to have a big role in the sequel based on Thor: Love & Thunder's trailers, as does Korg, who director Taika Waititi voices. New characters will be introduced as well, including the main villain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks revenge against the gods after they don't answer his prayers to save his family members' lives. Despite two trailers giving a decent look at the film, there's been no indication that Hiddleston will be among Thor: Love & Thunder's cast.

A new fan poster from agtdesign imagines what the Thor sequel could look like if Loki was in it. The character is seen walking through a Timedoor onto an alien planet that resembles the one Thor is seen meditating on in Thor: Love & Thunder's trailers. The artist's original post can be seen below:

Whether Loki makes an appearance in Thor: Love & Thunder or not, Hiddleston's time in the MCU isn't over. Loki proved to be a hit for Disney, and it was confirmed in season 1's final episode that season 2 was indeed happening. Loki was also rumored to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but despite him being directly linked to fracturing the Sacred Timeline, the sequel didn't even mention him. Loki season 2 will no doubt answer the biggest questions fans had at the end of season 1, yet the character could show up in Thor: Love & Thunder first.

With Loki appearing in all three Thor films and having a deep connection to the titular character as his adoptive brother, it would be strange to have a Thor movie without Loki. That being said, Thor currently believes his brother is dead as he isn't aware of the Loki variant. Bringing him back would make sense, but it also might not be the best idea for the film. Thor: Love & Thunder would have to spend a good chunk of time explaining to Thor how Loki is alive, which would take away from Mighty Thor and Gorr the God Butcher's important storylines.
