Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated movies of 2011 is Marvel’s Thor. The epic action film is directed by Shakespearean heavyweight Kenneth Branagh and will be a critical lead-in to The Avengers movie. Thor has already impressed fanboys around the world with its awesome Comic Con trailer, sweeping images of the massive Hall of Asgard, and photos of the ridiculously ripped Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder himself.
However, none of the previous releases have captured the awesomeness of Hemsworth in full Thor gear quite as well as the most recent cover of Empire Magazine. Coming our way via HeyUGuys!, this first look at the upcoming cover gives us perhaps the best full body look at Thor in costume so far. HeyUGuys has some additional images scanned from inside of the magazine, but the best image definitely comes from the cover.
Check out the cover image, slightly enhanced for your viewing pleasure, below.

I think the Thor costume looks much better in darker light. Some of the previous promotional images made the suit look somewhat cheap – specifically the chainmail, which had a plastic-like appearance. This image, on the other hand, really shows off how cool the chainmail and the hammer look. I especially like how the lightning reflects off of the hammer. Obviously, the image has been doctored heavily to look as stylish as possible, so it’s not necessarily a great representation of how the suit will look in action onscreen, but it’s very cool nonetheless and Hemsworth certainly looks the part.
In addition to Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, Thor features an impressive cast including Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor’s father; Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thor’s evil brother; and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Thor’s human love interest. The film hits theaters on May 20, 2011.

Thor’s hammer looks more like a mallet
Looks perfect to me. But,why do they hate the helmut so much???
The hammer looks funny. Weird really…first time i saw it on iron man 2 i laughed lol
Looks like Thor’s hammer. What did you want it to look like?
IDK…they couldve made it look better..

Good one BIG D
The handle just seems a little short to me. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. it just seems like the god of thunder (or whatever he is) should have a bigger hammer.
It’s actually supposed to be short; in the Norse myth, Loki turned into a fly and bit the hand of one of the dwarves working on it, so the hammer didn’t come out the way they planned.
well that’s what it has been for the past 40 years….
The helmet reasoning is simple, they want the heroes face to be visible, think back to the spiderman films, every possible oppurtunity to take the mask off.
Actually it is pretty much Like a Norse war mallet .These were used to swing and kill or maim enemies. but they had a longer handle and were primarily swung from horse back…the design is quite appropriate actually. So its pretty spot on..
Can’t Wait
I saw the comic con trailer and as of now I’m more excited for this then I am for Captain America and I’m not a big Thor fan.
Rob, I keep seeing people referring to Thor’s outfit as chainmail – so I’m not having a dig at you – but that’s scale armour. Agreed that it looks a LOT better lit properly!
As those segments probably are plastic or silicone rubber of some kind, it’ll be interesting to see how convincing the suit looks bending at the joints.
yea it looks like rubber or pleather lattice overlay.. you’d think they’d spring the budget for actual metal work.
if an actor .an actor with strength would you rather have him use a rubbber type hammer or metal.
its a saftey factor perhaps.
Looks great.
Cool!!
wheres the don blake secret identity ?lol
The new images look good and only serve to wet my appetitefor the movie.
If you can’t wait that long and want a quick Thor fix – check out some of my Thor fan fiction: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1276881/David_Scholes
Cheers
Nice stuff David!
This will be the the comic coming to life! If you’re a fan you will walk in the theatre and experience this the way it’s meant to be experienced. Of course you can wait for it to come out on DVD. That’s like going to a breakfast buffet for two raw eggs and then bitching about the food! If you walk in with a positive attitude you will have a better experience than you will if you go in with a negative attitude no matter how good or bad the film is.
Oops… sorry!
They made the epic cover of Iron Man 2 and now they have the extremely epic cover of THOR!!
