Kicking things off in high-gear today we have the very first image of Chris Hemsworth (Ca$h) as Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of the Marvel character.

Does Hemsworth look the part? What is his costume like – is it more old Thor or new Thor? Don’t wait another second – take a look!

The image comes to us exclusively from Yahoo Movies. It’s good about showing us enough of Hemsworth as Thor, without showing us too much. Check it this enhanced version, courtesy of our own Vic Holtreman:

What do you think - badass or just bad?

So let’s break it down: The goldie locks hair is there from the looks of it, and it seems we’ll be getting the bearded version of the character. The armor fits the description given a few months back from a source close to Thor‘s production, who described the armor as “medieval future tech look, a little less traditional than the comic but still very very awesome.” We questioned the legitimacy of that report earlier, but it seems to have been accurate, if this photo is anything to judge by.

Keeping the red cape? Awesome.

As for Hemsworth – in my opinion (and other members of the SR staff), dude is doing his thing. The look on his face in the photo definitely has that heavy, angry, brooding, dramatic expression one would expect of Thor. Can we finally disregard all those rumors about certain cast members expressing displeasure with Hemsworth’s acting? Ask me again when we see the Thor trailer (hopefully at this summer’s Comic Con).

An image of modern day Thor for reference.

Anyway, there’s only about a year left before Thor will be here; we recently saw the first image of The Destroyer, Thor’s nemesis, now we’re seeing the God of thunder himself, and [Spoiler Alert!] If you don’t know, there are already images of Thor’s most trusted weapon floating around the Interweb. Expect the reveals to keep coming – and be sure to check back here at Screen Rant.

Thor will be in theaters on May 6, 2011

  1. I think it looks pretty good. It'll click when he grabs his hammer.

  2. I don't think he looks like a homeless person at all. Thor was my favourite Marvel character and I more tuned to his original look. Having said that, I'm not averse to the beard either because it conforms more with the Viking look as we've been told.Beards and moustache were hip and masculine in that era. Thus beard appears more in line with Norse legend.

Don't quite swallow the black suit/armor explanation, though. Okay, but being a god and of royalty, what stops him from at least retaining his gold breastplates?? It's regal and in tune with the comics. Not to be misunderstood: I like the costume but I think it could've been closer to his comics outfit. And I hope we've not discarded the helmet?

  3. He'll more than likely have a beard at certain times, other times i think he'll shave, like when he arrives on earth. I think he won't sport the beard in THE AVENGERS and also have an alternate costume.

  4. should cut down that beard

  5. They should have just cast Karl Urban for the role.
He could totally pull off the “badass-medieval-norse god” characterization.

  6. The costume looks too new & fake. Needs to have more of a warrior look to it. Dirty, used, battle worn. This movie is already at a bad start.

    • @Jason Charles

“This movie is already at a bad start.”

Based on what? A few megapixels?

  7. you know what they did in iron man the made a perfect character specially the armor you can feel the nano technology used in it
but this one doesnt feel that good
although you pushed us too comment on it and we shouldn’t because its too soon

  8. I think Chris is a talented actor, his scene in Star Trek really did a great job of setting an emotional tone for the movie and underscored the rest of the plot. I know he’s not looking to be in a ‘traditional’ costume in this image but I think he looks modern and sort of kick ass. Besides, its an origin movie, so this costume could be used near the end of the film, as a tie in to the Avengers Film. I say give him and the movie a chance.

  9. All I can say is yum. Want more of that hunk.

  10. I think it is major cool.

  11. It’s a bit hard to really tell but it doesn’t look too bad. Can’t wait for the final result. :-)

  12. I’m not too sure about the costume or the actor, but to be fair there’s not alot to go off of yet. I can’t wait to see better pitures and a trailer or at least a teaser

  13. IT looks Bad!up date him.
Give us an Electric look of blue/white lightning and sparks dancing back and forth on Chrome silver armor and transparent acrylic parts.loose the red cape, or make it ribbons of living fire and smoke

  14. Thor= silly.

    • So says the guy with a Japanese anime character for an avatar :)

  15. I think the actor is good – but not a good fit for the build of Thor. They need someone jacked to the tee – almost like a pro wrestler that can act (if that’s possible)

  16. Thor the Movie was a fantastic Production. Kenneth Branaugh should be very proud of this film. The cast was terrific — Chris Hemsworth was fantastic as Thor and carried himself well; also having Anthony Hopkims as Odin. The special effects were awesome. Everyome connected with the film — congratulations.

  17. I have seen the Movie Thor. It was a fantastic production and Kenneth Branaugh should be proud. Chris Hemsworth was terrific as thor — carried himself well; Also Anthony Hopkins as Odin was another right choice. Everyone connected with the movie, filming etc. should be congratulated.

  18. Hay looking good
