Entertainment Tonight visited the set of Thor recently and came up with a four-minute featurette to share. While most of it is from an interview with stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, there is some good set footage as well.
The parts of the segment that truly stand out are those from Thor‘s set. A momentary glance at Chris Hemsworth in full Asgardian garb provides our first full-body look at the Thor costume. Another clip shows the intimidating bulk Hemsworth has put on, only enhanced by Portman’s petite figure.
In the interview, Hemsworth briefly discusses his feelings about portraying a relatively untapped Marvel legend. Additionally, a small moment is carved out for director Kenneth Branagh’s opinion of his now-mammoth Australian leading man.
Enough talk, take a look at the Thor set video:
Quick shots of supporting characters in the film give us a few first sneak peeks. Antony Hopkins is a foreboding figure as Odin, wearing a mighty cool eye patch.
There is also a shot of what appears to be Idris Elba as Heimdall, but I can’t be too sure. What do you think?

Unfortunately, most of the video is focused on an interview inside a trailer. It is disappointing they talk so little about the film itself, and instead focus on Australia’s Dancing With The Stars and Natalie Portman’s brief rap career. Yet, at the same time, the comfort with which Portman and Hemsworth talk is soothing to those wary of this film. The interview portion is proof of the great chemistry and relationship between two of the film’s most important stars.
While many will be focusing on the movie’s rendition of the original Thor comic, for me, the chemistry between performers ultimately makes or breaks a film. It hurts to think about the lack of chemistry between performers in the Star Wars prequels – the scenes with Portman and Hayden Christensen were about as flat as the green screen behind them. Thankfully, this interview with Entertainment Tonight suggests Hemsworth and Portman get along extremely well.

Overall, the four-minute video gives eager fans a solid look at the filming process behind Thor and the actors involved. Information has been scarce, but maybe this will jump start the promotional campaign leading up to this summer’s Comic Con. We will be on top of it for you, so continue to check back for details.

I just cracked up at Natalie’s last line.
“Chris and that little midget girl…starring in Thor!”
yea but he has put on alot of mass in regards to size I didn’t think he would be able to do it he has been preparing for this much more than 6 months even with steroids he would have had to have been at it for a little longer than that, He went from what looked like 175 to 190 at the least. and it wasn’t all Twinkies and Ho-hos, ha-ha!!!!!
ok..honestly..i’m now ENORMOUSLY excited about this movie! Seeing that 2 second scene where he puts a knee into some dude’s face was enough for me. He completely and totally LOOKS the part! I just hope the acting and effects are as gratifying. However, I don’t know if this will be fixed in post or if whatever effect they put on the film will fix this, but I’m not sure I like how Heimdall’s costume looks. meh.
Looks like Loki to me, Heimdall is supposed to be massive and brutish right? Well that looks like little Loki lol. Idk maybe I’m wrong and my vision is messed up but I can’t see skin color there either. Feel free to flame I guess haha.
Please tell me there’s not anyone else who wishes Triple H should have still gotten the part. It’s obvious Chris is a perfect fit, attitude wise and physically.
I agree, Chris is the guy for this role
I’m excited for Thor, but still not sold on that costume. It’s not awful it just doesn’t feel right.
Yea I kind of know what you mean although in the clip it really wasn’t to clear it kind of looked like the boots were off color not straight black. The black on black kind of screws it up for me, the sleeves might be a little much as well. Honestly I’m kind of hoping that it will be better than what it seems most of us are expecting. The cape could disappear and I don’t think it would make a difference
So it seems that the concept art IS the real deal. Thats very unfortunate because He looks like he’s either going out for another night of “Dancing with Stars” or the 500th “Annual Asgardian Ball”. The looks here are too clean and slick or too formal looking and not rugged enough. If they would have added a little gold to Thor’s bottom half(especially a gold belt) then they probably would have gotten away with the design. Odin looks ok so far. Heimdall has tooo much gold it should be toned down some,a combo of gold and silver would have been nice or just tone that gold down some with the brown.
Glad to see that Chris put on the muscle for this role instead of it being added in later with CGI. I’m really hoping this movie is at least half as good as Iron Man. It’ll then be a great movie!
There was nothing in that four minutes plus that made me want to see this movie more than any previous promo stuff I have seen.. There was tongue in cheek chemistry with Portman and Hemsworth but not much of anything else..When are we going to get some REAL promotional media for this movie.
I will be there opening day
but this was all bland and fluff..
of course he´s Heimdall. And despite i had my doubts now I can see it´s perfect!!. Ihave said he´s Heimdall becouse He looks like exactly as in the comics! Now I´m really excited about the movie of my favorite marvel character!! Odin’son rocks!!
For a moment I could have sworn I saw Loki earlier today, like he was on some cliff overlooking Asgard (curved horns and all) but maybe I was seeing things. It was there for a tenth of a second. What I probably saw was the Heimdall character.
Good to too se the second of Odin/Anthony Hopkins though, and a piece of Asgardian set. I’m sold on the costume.
I don’t blame ET for bringing up Dancing With The Aussie Stars or how Chris’ brother is seeing Hannah Montana. They pull that sort of trivial nonsense. Not like twenty to fifteen years ago when it wasn’t always cotton candy (oh the days of John Tesh sarcasm and critic Leonard Maltin sticking it to bad films) but hey…this is gold here. Fort Knox quality reporting compared to updates on our reality show checkup and the Playboy mansion.
very cool behind the scenes footage. CAnt wait to see more in the coming months.
I hope he’s not dressed in muggle clothing for the majority of the film.
really didnt show much footage but I guess this will change peoples opinion on Hemsworth being too small, seriously hes huge! Lets see if Evans can do the same
I have a feeling a good bit will be done in post to “enhance” the look of Asgard. Didn’t make me want to see it more … mainly because it is already my most anticipated of next year.
She is still so sexy.
And Chris looks like he’s going to really do well in this role. Honestly, i’ve never heard of the guy, but it looks like he was the proper choice for Thor. Big boy.
Really really looking forward to this but…. PANTS!? Come one Thor the God of Thunder does not wear pants. Top portion of the costume looks amazing but I feel like it’s going to come across a little cheesy because of the bottom.
Thor has pants on in the comic. Sure, they are spandex but we all know that’s not going to happen in live-action.
Is it just me or did Chris Hemsworth kinda look and have alot of the same mannerisms as heath ledger in the interview. weird. never noticed it before.
Heath eh? thats sort of a good thing wouldnt you say?
meh i don’t thinks its good or bad. just thought it was weird i never noticed it.
I don’t think it bodes well…
I agree I saw some of heath as well. It looks great the chemistry between them look good.
naif question: is the guy wearing a wig..?
for some reason I can’t retweet this
I am excited for ANY NEWS from this film! I’m happy about the chemistry, the costumes, that Chris H. is looking good. More please!
Sorry to say, another site had the clip yesterday-I was actually shocked to not see it here first-not a complaint just an observation of how I’ve come to depend on you, Vic and Screenrant, for the latest in Thor news. :~)
to quote Neo “whoa” .
that ltlle bit where he jumped down the stairs and kneed that dude in tha face gave me chills. lighning added to it.
lol
as alwase cant wait.
but the real Question…………………. Will we be seeing a Rainbow Bridge ??
or more importantly the midgaurd serpent ????
Like somebody else said earlier, those leather pants have got to go. They need to do something about that, they look horrible. They should have had scale mail on his legs not 80′s Metal band leather pants.
where is the helmet? thor wears a viking helmet. he is not in full costume. i am seeing too many images of chris hemsworth not wearing the signature helmet of thor and if he is like this in the entire movie then it will turn out to be a huge failure because he does not look like thor.
So for u the quality of this film depends on a helmet? Writing directing and acting have nothing to do with it? Every thing depends on his helmet even if it was best written film in history ? I mean u said if he doesn’t have the helmet it will fail that’s a bit of an exageration most people will focus on the quality of the film and not a missing helmet.
What about the wings!!?! THE HELMET HAS WINGS!!!!! Oh no the movies ruined!!! WHERE ARE THE WINGS!!!!!!!
The Ultimates; Thor comics have removed the helmet I think. Most of the inspiration for the movie versions of Marvel’s characters have been following the look and feel of the Ultimates storylines Marvel produced around 2000 to 2002.
Moving on….I think the character’s costumes do look to clean or slick or slightly cheesy. So far everything looks to clean. Maybe this will change when they hit post-production.
Another shiny flashy Marvel hero is what everyone wants to see though….
He must have trained night and day and consumed insane amounts of calories to bulk up to this degree in only 6 months. It’s not impossible, Bale showed a more extreme example going from 185 down to 122 then back up at 220 during one year of shooting between two movies, ultimately settling at 195 for Batman Begins.
Isnt chris hemsworth also the white guy from Alicia keys new video “unthinkable” yeah that guy kinda has a little david beckham/ bradd pitt thing going on…he reminded me of a young Brad in LA Confidential. Lets hope his acting skills are just as good.
Kudos for putting Idris Elba in a Marvel Movie…tho I think he would excell more in a black panther movie. Hes got leading man status written all over the guy…plus he has the cool british accent.
sorry i guess i was confusing chad michael murray for Chris Hemsworth…from alicia keys “unthinkable” video. i thought it was the same guy.
yes i agree writing, directing, acting & good quality are very important but the look is very essential to the character because that’s the way marvel comics created him and for the true fanboys of this character it is crucial to the costume,or else he is just an ordinary looking man. he is supposed to look like a superhero, why does heimdall wear a helmet and not odin or thor? spiderman & ironman both looked exactly the way they were supposed to look in the comics. even the more current issues of thor comics have him still wearing his helmet.superman doesn’t wear any headgear because does not appear in comics that way.thor is not thor without the helmet,he does not look correct so the movie won’t feel right
if a helmet is what they need, borrow the one from adventurees in babysiting…..
i remember many times in the 90′s seeing thor without his helmet in the comics…especially when he was with the avengers.
Agreed. I remember him many times without the helmet after he grew the full beard. I can’t see this movie failing because he doesn’t have a helmet.
