New photos from the set of Thor: Love & Thunder reveal New Asgard and a Viking ship. With production kicking off earlier this year, Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo outing as Thor is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate. Director Taika Waititi will return as director and the voice of Korg, along with some other characters from the beloved Ragnarok, including Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, the newly crowned King of Asgard. Natalie Portman will also make her long-awaited reappearance as Jane Foster and wield Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.

Thor 4 is not expected to be just a routine sequel. The first photos to surface from the set showed Chris Prat in costume as Star-Lord, who is expected to appear alongside the rest of the Guardians, including Dave Bautista’s Drax, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, and Sean Gunn’s Kraglin (with Rocket and Groot expected to appear too). To top off its Avengers-like ensemble cast, Thor: Love & Thunder will welcome a few high-profile newcomers in Christian Bale as the main villain, Gorr the God Butcher, and Russell Crowe as Marvel’s version of Zeus.

While photos have surfaced from the set of Thor 4 before, the latest provide perhaps the best look at the film’s New Asgard set and the peculiar industry the town is getting into. User Thor: Love and Thunder News shared the photos on Twitter, which show four different views of the New Asgard set being built in Sydney. An Asgardian longship that appears to have rollercoaster-style seating sits next to a building marked “Asgard Tours: Aerial Sightseeing,” which provides a strong hint as to what the boat will be used for.

These set photos are not all that different from the New Asgard concept art director Taika Waititi shared over a year ago. After the destruction of Asgard in the previous film, the planet’s survivors settled in a town in Norway during the five years between Infinity War and Endgame. They aptly named their new home, New Asgard.

While some time will have passed since the last time New Asgard was seen and before the events of Thor: Love & Thunder, it appears they will have made some drastic improvements to their town, especially in fitting it for tourism. Some roofs and walls appeared to be slightly damaged, perhaps the doing of Gorr the God Butcher. The fully finished New Asgard set will be seen in all its glory when Thor: Love & Thunder debuts in theaters less than a year from now on May 6, 2022.
