WARNING: This post contains POSSIBLE SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok
Production on next fall’s Thor: Ragnarok keeps chugging along, and fans are excited to hear any new information they can about the anticipated sequel. The film has one of the most stacked casts in Marvel Studios history (no small feat), with returning faces Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba being joined by the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, and Cate Blanchett. It’s also expected that the Warriors Three will be making an appearance.
As one can see, director Taika Waititi has plenty of characters to work into his movie, but there could very well be more. Recently released Ragnarok set photos suggested that the God of Thunder would be taking a detour to New York City at some point in his latest adventure, calling into question why he would visit the Big Apple. Based on new images from the production, the nature of Thor’s trip could be very “strange.”
A set photo posted on HitFix depicts Thor in street clothes holding a business card. On the card is the address 177A Bleecker St., which Marvel Comics readers will recognize as the place of residence for one Stephen Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme, of course, is headlining his own solo vehicle later this year, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. You can see it in the below tweet:

This picture will surely generate a substantial amount of buzz, as it marks the first time there’s been word of the possibility of Strange being in the third Thor film. It honestly wouldn’t be surprising if Waititi included him (even if it were just for a post-credits sequence), seeing that the Phase 3 MCU movies have fully embraced the crossover aspect of the shared cinematic universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming will co-star Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark, and we just saw a “solo” Captain America movie feature two battling teams of Avengers. As the franchise continues to grow, there’s been more interconnectivity between installments.
Like just about everyone else in the MCU, Strange will probably be showing up in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, so having him cameo in Ragnarok would be a solid way of keeping the character in the public consciousness between now and then. Additionally, given that Strange specializes in magic and mysticism, his abilities could be of great aid to Thor if he needs help traveling to another dimension or realm. Obviously, plot details are being kept under wraps for now, so it’s difficult to say for sure how Strange would fit into the narrative (if he were to appear). This development will give viewers another intriguing detail to debate.
Given that Thor: Ragnarok already has a lot on its plate, some moviegoers may be leery of another character being thrown into the mix, but Marvel has balanced large ensembles before. Plus, with this revelation happening so late into the process, Strange would probably not be a major part of the plot, only stepping in for a scene or two at the most. Considering Cumberbatch’s portrayal is well-received when Doctor Strange premieres, there will be many excited to see him come back sooner rather than later.
