New ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Footage in Featurette; Plus, Heimdall & Malekith Posters

Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, which first introduced Chris Hemsworth as the titular Norse god and Tom Hiddleston as his scheming brother Loki, featured battles in several locations across the Nine Realms, including the icy plains of Jotenheim and a fight on our own home turf. In the upcoming sequel Thor: The Dark World, the war that Thor, Loki and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) find themselves caught up in is one where the stakes include the fate of every world in the Nine Realms. No pressure, guys.

A featurette for Thor: The Dark World has just been released, providing a recap of who the key players are and what happened at the end of The Avengers (for the three people out there who haven’t seen it yet), which means that there’s some older footage at the very beginning of the video. Later, however, there’s some new footage from Thor 2 including a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of Thor wearing his helmet, and a longer clip of Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston) picking his mask up off the ground.

We’ve already seen some dramatic posters of Thor and Loki, whose dynamic was a strong aspect of both Thor and The Avengers, but two new international posters for Thor: The Dark World give the spotlight to a couple of other major players in the battle to for the universe.

Heimdall (Idris Elba) was a strong and intimidating presence in Thor and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be slacking off in Thor: The Dark World. Between his “You shall not pass” expression and his horned armor, Heimdall remains the formidable doorman that Asgard needs to keep the bad guys out.

The lead bad guy, Malekith, is shown in the second poster with his mask in hand and an army of Dark Elves following in his wake, all finished off with an enormous and ominous-looking black spaceship behind them. Malekith has been a little underplayed so far in the trailers for Thor: The Dark World -  most likely because Thor and Loki are considered the major selling points – but if anything the lack of exposition about his character and plans will only make it all the more interesting to see what kind of threat he presents in the movie.

With all these different posters being released, are there any supporting characters from Thor: The Dark World who you hope are going to get a character poster of their own?

Thor: The Dark World is out in theaters on November 8th, 2013.

  1. Idris Elba for the win!

    • +1000

  2. I’m so excited for this movie! I think this is going to be the best marvel movie to date by far

  3. I’m looking forward to this it looks like a lot of fun Hemidall looks like a boss in that poster, I hope he has a larger role in this movie because I’ve been watching Luther and have really enjoyed Elba’s performance. What I like about all the trailers and featurettes for this movie is that I don’t feel like they are saying too much about the movie or revealing too much, I don’t know anything about Malekeith in this movie r what he will feel like all I can say is that his costume looks awesome and I think Eccleston will be amazing. I can’t wait for this.

  4. Heimdall poster is the best poster marvel has ever produced.

    • +9000, my friend. He looks wonderfully imposing!

      • add another +1000!

  5. Thanks, Superman.

It looks much better than it did before you got here.

    • +1

    • While I’m not really arguing that, I don’t see much of a difference pertaining to the re-shoots and all, personally (except for more Loki, allegedly). Is there an example of something that you could point out that might make the/any differences clearer to me?

I mean what change in quality are you seeing that isn’t just due to us seeing more now and knowing/seeing less before?

      • For me atleast man of steel had one of the best marketing campaigns that ive seen. Which to me elevated thr marketing campaign of thor thr dark world lol

      • there is no difference. none.

      • I’ld like to know what Ive been missing also

  6. Want.

  7. Im so bummed out it´s almost a reality Thor will not wear his so cool helm in the film.

That was one of my main complains for Thor´s first movie.
I sense I´ll still complaining in future installments…

  8. Nope.. I didn´t see the helmet…
But why Is he always without it? Its a trademark for.. norse god!

    • Because they don’t want to cover up his pretty little face. Lol and hair

  9. Queen Frigga poster! That is still missing!

And I know that a lot of people are eager to see more of Zachary Levi as Fandral, so maybe the Warriors Three deserve some marketing time too.

  10. Heimdall has always been my favourite supporting character from the Thor comics. Love to see him getting his due.

  11. Looks good! My antici……….pation is growing.

  12. The helmet is NOT the best thing for him to wear in battle. It keeps falling off. Just like it did several times in the Avengers cartoon. As far as the anticipation for this movie and how excited I am. I think I need to go find a towel. See ya

  13. Obviously will be better than IM3, but will it be the second best Marvel movie? Will it reach the ratings of Avengers?

  14. I think this movie will tank. There seems to be no anticipation for this movie all the rewrites and reshooting of scenes. I always thought GArbage of the galaxy or atom oops I mean antman will be marvels 1st new bombs but it looks like Thor might be the 1st.

  15. I want a Sif poster!!
