80 Gorgeous & Revealing High-Res ‘Thor 2′ Images

1 year ago by

Marvel Studios and parent company Disney are already seeing success with Thor: The Dark World opening in international markets this week to greater numbers than its predecessor, but the second chapter to Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still more than a week away from release in North America.

On this week’s podcast we previewed Thor: The Dark World and dissected what it means for Thor 3 and other future Marvel films, most notably, The Avengers 3, combining what we learned from visiting the Thor 2 set and interviewing the cast and director at the film’s press junket. Having seen the film, we broke down the mid and post-credits sequences and today we have more (less-spoilery) info in the form of new images. Lots of new images.

The below photo galelries come from Disney and The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide who’ve had two large batches of exclusive Thor 2 stills in recent weeks. In them we finally get to see Zachary Levi’s Fandral in costume with blonde hair, along with the other members of the Warriors Three; close-ups of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje suited up as both as Algrim the Strong and Kurse (rocking the horns) and plenty of hero shots of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) in their unique and detailed Asgardian armor.

Note also in the below images the foreboding imagery of portals opening up to the nine realms, most notably one to the fiery Muspelheim, home of Surtur and the Fire Demons which we expect to see in the next Thor movie. There are also more shots of Chris O’Dowd and Stellan Skarsgård in London, and more picturesque images of Asgard.

Which character design and location impresses you the most?

Alan Taylor directs Thor 2 off of Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s screenplay. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins.

Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015, Ant-Man on July 31, 2015, and unannounced films for May 6 2016, July 8 2016 and May 5 2017.

  1. best (solo character) Marvel film so far i think

bear in mind i haven’t changed my mind since iron man 1.

    • Indeed.

    • @Jim

I agree. It is definitely the best Marvel film outside of Avengers. However it could’ve definitely hit greater heights and you can see it was heavily studio influenced in the final act.

    • Although iron Man, Thor, and captain America all have different things to recommend them in various ways, I will say that for someone who did not really like Thor all that much in the comics, I am actually enjoying him in the movies.

  2. What a wasted chance ..I do not see a single screen with the SHIELD TV Team or Coulson here ! :(

Wonder if the pop up as a cameo or guest stars in cap 2 !

    • If this movie is happening around the same time with Iron Man 3, the TV team would not have been assembled yet and Coulson was still in ‘Tahiti’ XD

  3. Nice to see Heimdall checking out the Batman vs Superman advert in the thread pic :p

  4. Holy tons of images!

  5. Can’t wait to see this paper thin plot play out.

    • If you’re looking for something paper thin, I’d suggest go watching something else.

      • But Marvel films are the best films to watch when wanting to see paper thin plots. Remember Avengers? Iron Man 2? 3? Thor 1? Cpt. America?

      • I have to be honest… it’s really paper thin.
But never mind that, cause its awesome anyway that you really want to see again and again! Hahaha

      • Right with u man…I mean filmlover u havn’t seen the movie yet so…

  6. oh the movie was good and oh so funny in parts you really see the trickster show off his skills

  7. Jaimie Alexander is super hot and great as Sif. I’m glad her and the Warrior’s Three have an expanded role in this and are portrayed as actual warriors not just comic relief.

  8. lol! Dr.Selvig points to the “616 universe” in his chalkboard diagram of the “tree of life”

    • Wow,I didn’t notice that! Easter Egg!!

  9. I am in the states, so it is not open here yet, but I cannot wait to see Kurse! he looks so bad a$$ in the images I have seen so far.. Thurs. Nov.7 is the first showing here and I already have my tickets!

    • Unless you have advanced screening tickets Nov 5th. :)

    • I no!!!!!! did you see Algrim he actually looks badass..wierd..but badass

      • It’s very cool, the similarities between Algrim’s mask and his Kurse form.

  10. Oops.

I clicked on this article thinking the pics would show hints at Captain America that I may have missed while I watched Thor a couple of days ago.

  11. In one shot it appears Thor (with Loki at his side) is in command of a dark elf ship.
And what is with the 4 world portals being open at the same time in the clouds?

    • I could tell you… :)

  12. Just seen it and I will post my full opinion on Screen Rant’s review.

For 2/3 of the way it was borderline fantastic. But Marvel / Disney’s insistence on humour and comedy really hurt it in the final third.

Still way better than IM3 though which the most important thing than you guys in the US need to know right now.

    • Nothing can get worse than Iron Man 3. But I’m sure Marvel will find some way, they always will.

  13. This set of images is actually rather spoilerific…

Then again, if you’re still unconvinced about the movie, trust me… those awesome scenery in these images looked even more gorgeous on screen. Asgard it truly a heaven-like place I’d like to live in…

  14. Wow. Thor never gets sweaty nor dirty. They just show his “god like” face and wonderful well brushed golden hair.

At least why not putting his helmet on. Come on film makers! there is a male audience here.

  15. xxxx spoilers xxxx

I want his cxxk in my mouth. Like now.

loved the totally recognisable shots of Greenwich Uni!!

    The collector!!

Loki is , like. fit as fxxk!!

    Daddy, daddy, dad?

    • Maybe not so much. High protein diet makes for rank farts!

  16. i see Tuvok

  17. This is off topic but if they ever reboot Avatar the Last Airbender as a movie i would recommend Alan Taylor for the directing job and give it a Lord of the Rings style Scale.

  18. It’s weird when ScreenRant readers post a comment about “read my review at this other site…” as if anyone wants to see it.
