When it comes to “Phase Two,” lately the focus has been on Marvel Studios’ forthcoming sequels Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World but with Chris Evans out and about promoting The Iceman at the TIFF a few Captain America: The Winter Soldier details have also started to appear. At first, it was little hints here and there from Evans, namely a confirmation that the film begins shooting in March, but now comes some even juicier details.
Since Marvel has done a fantastic job of tying all of its characters together in films like The Avengers it stands to reason that from here on out feature cameos are a given. To that point, Evans reveals he would be interested in making an appearance in Thor: The Dark World.
Speaking with Collider, Evans says that he has discussed the possibility of a cameo in Thor’s next adventure, but is unsure of how director Alan Taylor might pull it off. Current rumors surrounding Thor 2 suggest the film might be set in several of the comic book universe’s nine realms, namely Muspelheim and Svartalfhiem, which leaves little room for Captain America to appear.
“[Chris] Hemsworth and I even talked about that. I would love to do a little thing in Thor 2. It is obviously going to be tricky trying to work out the plot, the reason why I am not there to help him, and why he is not there to help me. But the best thing about Marvel is that, like I said, the movies were so good and we had such a good time making them.”

Other rumors hinted that Earth might come into play in some respect – in order to accommodate the return of Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster – but we’re still waiting on confirmation. It’s been assumed for some time that Jane Foster would be kidnapped from Earth, potentially by Malekith the Accursed, calling Thor back into action. Having Captain America appear in some capacity, however, is another issue entirely.
In addition to a Thor 2 cameo, Evans talked a little bit about where Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s story might be headed, namely in its exploration of Steve Rogers as a fish out of water. There were touches of that storyline featured in The Avengers, but most of those moments ended up as deleted scenes on the Blu-ray and DVD.
Evans reveals that the main reason those scenes of Rogers (coping with being frozen for several decades) were cut from Avengers was to allow for the story arc to be explored Captain America 2. Furthermore, he provides additional credence to directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s talk of exploring Steve Rogers’ WWII exploits through flashbacks.
“A lot of that stuff [that was cut] is for Captain America 2. That is his story. It is him trying to on a personal level adjust to the fact that everyone he knows is gone and the whole Peggy Carter of it all. There are a lot of things that he kind of has to come to terms with. So I don’t know. I am excited to kind of see flashes of the first Captain, if you know what I mean, and to see his memory of what we now know as an audience of who he was.”

Hayley Atwell (who played Peggy Carter in the first Captain America) has already teased that she might return for Winter Soldier, and this quote from Evans all but confirms it. Maybe this will be our chance to see the Peggy Carter reunion director Joss Whedon wanted to include in The Avengers.
Speaking of the Carter family tree we also have a rumor from Ain’t It Cool News that may confirm Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) has been cast as Sharon Carter – or at least is in talks. Kendrick was included among the short list of actresses Marvel was looking to cast as a female lead (presumably Sharon Carter), and now she’s playing coy about the rumors.
“All I know is that I can’t really say anything. Sorry, man.”
While Kendrick couldn’t officially confirm whether or not she’s playing Sharon Carter, her response does suggest she has a role to play in The Winter Soldier. The actress has been featured in several indie and lower budget films as of late, but has yet to headline a major action blockbuster (she’s enjoyed smaller roles in the Twilight films as well as Scott Pilgrim), making her a perfect fit for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Even more than that she bares a striking resemblance to the character of Sharon Carter.

In the comics Sharon is Peggy Carter’s niece (retconned from her daughter), who becomes an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. operating under the alias Agent 13. More importantly, though, Sharon Carter is a key love interest for Captain America, a plot point we anticipate to be picked up in Winter Soldier – especially if Atwell’s Peggy Carter has a role to play in the sequel.
And, if Kendrick was interested, this could open her up to the possibility of appearing in other Marvel properties. Since the inception of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio has been smart about signing their actors on for multiple projects, meaning that Kendrick’s Sharon Carter could be a major player not only in The Winter Soldier and its sequels, but The Avengers 2 as well.
As we said, Captain America: The Winter Soldier doesn’t begin filming until spring of next year — after Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and possibly Ant-Man — providing plenty of time for the ink to dry on Kendrick’s contract with Marvel. In the meantime, however, we hope to see the actress officially confirmed for a role – hopefully as Sharon Carter.
Thor: The Dark World releases on November 8, 2013, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier releases on April 4, 2014.

Kendrick is a fantastic actress
… but not right for this role, IMHO.
Yeah, the lack of confirmation about Portman returning as Jane Foster is curious, we’ve already had confirmation for so many returning characters, and if Darcy is returning, surely Jane will be too…?
I thought there was a falling out with Portman and Marvel. I would love for their to be less time spent on Earth. But has my wife puts it, the movie is better with Earth…
This could be true…
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/natalie-portman-apparently-pissed-at-marvel-for-firing-patty-jenkins-from-thor-2-directors-chair
Wow, they just need to replace Portman now if she’s going to cause a problem because one of her Hollywood “buddies” didn’t get their way. The diva crap is disgusting while hard working Americans are lucky just to have jobs.
that pissing off doesnt make sense since i think in one interview kevin feige mentioned that it was unfortunate they couldnt get to work with Patty but in the future they would like to.
that is an old article,(over 9 months ago if you saw the date) one that appeared on this site as well, and is probably more rumor than truth.
Maybe they didn’t confirm it since it’s kind of self-explanatory.
I mean, they didn’t really “confirm” that Hemsworth, Alexander, or Elba (among others) would return, but we still know they’re going to be in the movie since it’s obvious.
Wow, reading back my comment, I sound very condescending… that wasn’t my intention DSB.
Sorry man.
Hey man, it’s cool, I know you’re not like that. And you might very well be right.
The fact that Portman hasn’t been confirmed is strange, I know Marvel is cheap maybe she wants a pay raise or her role is much smaller and its going to be filmed toward the end, I for one would like to see Lady Sif take more of a romantic role in this one even if its just unrequited in the beginning…
Anna Kendrick is really good actress I think she’d be great in any role and I know Scarjo is short(5’4″) but Anna is 5 foot nothing its going to look really cool or really weird seeing her as a badass Sharon Carter….
Portman’s contract has her coming back. The money thing is already signed off on so if she doesn’t come back, I doubt it will be because of money since it’s already agreed upon.
I agree with you 100% on the Sif relationship with Thor. But it appears Marvel doesn’t want that. Even in the EMH cartoon Sif is an after thought and Jane Foster is in more episodes.
Well i realize the contracts are signed but from what happened to Terrence Howard and his falling out with Marvel you never know…
I never got why they threw Sif to the side, I always felt a love interest like Sif would make for better story telling, Sif would be a more complicated relationship that you could play off of in a movie, after all shes an Asgardian Warrior who also happens to be one of your best friends, it certainly seems like they aren’t going in this direction maybe they are saving it for the sequels or for when they inevitably reboot Thor in 10 or so years…
I think the problem with Howard is that Marvel didn’t sign people to multi film contracts when they first started. No one knew if this MCU would be created right away. So when they hit him up, he wanted too much money.
That certainly makes sense to me. I wish Marvel saw it that way.
TH got paid mote than RDJ for IM…go figure. i could see jeff bridges getting more, he’s more of an established actor, also (at the time)recently won an oscar. imo, TH is more of an over-actor. i just find him annoying. glad they replaced him.
There is definitely a jealousy plot line going on already between the 3 characters. Maybe not a “love triangle” but some kind of betrayal maybe? Loki could fill Sif’s mind with ideas or something
I think he should have a love triangle situation too. It sets up more angst for Thor and then he can break into Shakespearean-like soliloquoys (and it also represents being torn between Asgard and Earth/Midgard).
Under her Filmography on Imdb.com it says: Thor: The Dark World (filming)
Jane Foster 2013. And she is also listed on the cast of Thor 2
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1981115/
I don’t know where you get your information.
Maybe you should be a bit more careful of where you get YOUR information
IMDB isn’t exactly what I’d call a reliable source.
Here again Caps backstory + Winter Soldier story + Falcon + Avengers 2 service = messy or a great souper story
. I know too early to tell, exciting never the less on several levels…
I think IM2 could have been a better movie and not have the “pre-avengers” description if they just would extended it a little longer and spent some more time on things. If Cap 2 is a rushed 120 min movie with all of this going on, it’s a reason for concern.
It’s got another year of pre-production for storyline, scripting, etc… They know the value $$$ of a good movie over at Disney. Especially when it comes to their highest grossing franchise ever period ever.
It’s a talking point anyway and unlike ‘Iron Man 2′ it’s not in the can yet. That’s a good reason to remain positive and hope that they keep ‘Iron Man 2′ in mind when they actually start fleshing out the script. If nothing else they film some extra story that can bridge any gaps left by runtime limitations to include in another release…
I think we’ll definitely be getting a post credits scene with Cap but I’m not sure if he’ll get a cameo in the film itself. But I like Kendrick for the Carter role
If the kidnapping on earth is true then they can make the scene be that it’s Cap who tries to initially protect or rescue her on behalf of Shield. Hell, they can have Cap, Black Widow and Hawkeye on the job and make it part of where Cap’s movie starts. And then they can make Cap’s movie start right at Thor leaving to go rescue Jane Foster. Kinda like, Jason Bourne it.
That’s a good idea IF they consider a thread running through all the movies as either essential to a larger story wrapping up in Avengers 2 or they don’t care so much about how the inclusion of other heroes figures into the stand alone nature of any particular film.
I’m under the impression that the idea is that if you’re a Thor fan then you want the movie to focus exclusively on Thor. The thing is what about how his relationships with others effects who he is? SHIELD might be just an organization but people inhabit that organization! The dynamic created by the people that inhabit it will through it, impact each individual in ways that make each character personality richer and a part of their motivation for what they say and do. At some point that needs addressing and the same thing can be said about Thor being in and apart of Asgard. Either the audience needs to understand that the character is influenced or not by his or her participation in SHIELD and what that means in a larger context or ‘Avengers’ will suffer. In the end, if you go see the ‘Avengers’ titles because that’s another opportunity to see your favorite character in action, it helps to know just why they move through that property the way they do…
I wish Atwell could play Sharon as well
– but out of the short list, Kendrick is my #1 choice.
Not so sure about Cap appearing in Thor 2 though. IMO Thor 2 needs to stand on its own. Dr Strange still fits in with the mysticism and magic of the Thor world, but I can’t see how Cap would make much sense…
I agree on Anna Kendrick & I think Atwell was great as Peggy and it’s a shame she will probably be relegated to probably playing an 80 year old Peggy or just using her in flashbacks(which could make for interesting story telling) but she would’ve made an interesting Sharon Carter(even though that might seem weird for general audiences)..
Love Anna Kendrick! She could also appear in the S.H.I.E.L.D TV show.
I love the fact that Chris E AN CHRIS H sit around and spin ideas like that! It’s awesome!
Anna Kendrick = awesome. I hope it’s true.
every time i hear about these people being cast as Shield agents, i think about them appearing in the tv series. some of these new actors being cast should have appearing in the series as part of their contract so they dont become to busy to appear.
Kendrick is also good for the box office pull. Some Twilight fans will want to see her in Cap and I believe Cap had one of the weaker performances box office wise. It’s a smart business decision.
Or have Jane in trouble, (along with other problems in the 9 realms) and when Thor comes to earth, Cap is there (maybe with SHIELD?)and theres a brief moment of a Cap/Thor team up to save her?
so we have an ant-man movie coming into play, thor 2, captain america 2, and iron man 3 but where in the world is the hulk 3? come on marvel. i’m lovin’ the expected movies and what you are all doing but i would like to see hulk smash some stuff on his own. he is a key character in the avengers and would provide more tie-in’s to the whole thing-a-ma-jig they’re doing right now.
*Hulk -2-
Ang Lee’s Hulk has nothing to do with the Marvel Studios movies, and subsequently, the MCU.
I was really hoping since Amanda Righetti was at the end of Captain America, that she was going to play Sharon Carter.
Me too! It took me a while to recognize her because she looked familiar, but it finally hit me, it’s van Pelt! For what it’s worth, she can play a cold badass chick (my impression on Sharon Carter, not really Captain America reader).
I typically do not like re-casting but I want to make an exception. Re-cast Jane Foster. Portman is ok but losing her would not be a big deal.
Kendrick is hot i’m sure shes a good actress would love to see her as agent carter
Lol He wants that fat paycheck.
this may come off as being a negative nelly, but, after reading some of chris evans’ interviews about how he was approached for cap, he didn’t want to do it. he doesn’t like being pigeon-holed into 1 type of film, then they threw all this money at him and he agreed, but he was quoted as saying that if he did a cameo in a film, it would count as 1 of his 6 he signed on for. it also looks to me from his appearance at comic-con last year for the avengers panel, that he just looked like he would rather be anywhere else but there. maybe i’m reading to much into all this, but it looks like he’s trying to hurry up his deal and be done with it. i hope i’m way off.
I remember an interview where he said he really doesn’t like all the publicity that goes with these movies (while shooing Cap he saw a psychiatrist to help him get through all the publicity/press/interviews/pressure that was going to follow), so I think that pretty much explains the comic-con thing. I’ve noticed that he wears hats a lot as well, so I wouldn’t say he doesn’t WANT to be at all the premiers, panels, interviews, etc., as much as he can’t HANDLE being there (I can only imagine how stressful that stuff must be – if you say one thing wrong, thousands of people will hate you or criticize you)… of course, this opinion is solely based on a video interview I saw last year.
And that goes back to his initial hesitation for accepting the role of Cap as well. He knew his life would change if he got the role (he’d be put in the spot light, for all to see) and I can fully understand why that would make any sane person question if they’d be willing to give up their privacy for a big movie deal. In the end, he did what he wanted to do though (I
m sure money played a big part, but I’m certain there was more to it than that), and personally, I’m glad he did it – Evans is a great Captain America.
I’d like to see Jane Foster in Asgard. This tiny, feisty Earth woman scientist interacting with the stuffy arrogant Asgardians.
Maybe play it like this:
Malekith, somehow learns from the imprisoned Loki that Thor has an Earth girlfriend. Malekith goes to Earth and attempts to kidnap Jane, but SHIELD has their eye on her and sends Cap in at the last minute. He rescues Jane, but Malekith gets away. Nick Fury assigns Doctor Strange to find out what’s going on. Who is this Malekith? Where is he from? What’s going on? Strange psychically locates Malekith and then discovers danger he represents to Earth AND Asgard. Then Fury, through DS gets a message to Thor………. Who is pissed off…. Flies in….. Takes Jane up to Asgard where she’ll be really “safe.” Then Thor goes after Malekith. Mucho combat adventure action proceeds from there.
Meanwhile Jane is cooling her heels in Asgard, Jane meets the family. Sparks fly. She rubs them the wrong way and vice versa. She’s from Earth, NOT an Asgardian……. That whole Montague/Capulet thing. But then she meets the imprisoned step-brother Loki. He’s actually nice to her (through the bars of his cage), and Jane tries to rehabilitate Loki. Subplot begins here.
If Anna Kendrick is cast as the female lead (or anything more than the female sidekick or chum to a female lead), well, I guess I’ll be skipping out on watching this sequel.
They should just bring back Hayley Atwell. She was rather underused in the previous Captain America.
I’m sorry, but I’m not seeing any resemblence between Kendrick and Carter. For one, she may be early twenties but the actress’s physical looks and mannerisms both still scream 16. Secondly, Sharon is supposed to be a tough, statuesque blond. I feel like this is a good example of shortlists not necessarily being the best person for the role so much as a mad lib of popular young actors/actresses. I don’t think she’s at the point where she could portray Sharon Carter. Either of the other two on the shortlist that screenrant covered would be much more suited to it.
watch anna kendrick be the new jane foster, replacing portman, haha
That thought struck me too heh.
I guess I am just biased. I don’t like Anna in any movie she has been in. Its hard for me to even watch her on screen. The only movie she played in that in which I slightly enjoyed her performance in was 50/50. But even then, I had trouble enjoying the movie because of her involvement. I just find her annoying.
Could ms. carter headline the SHIELD tv series…?
I love Kendrick, but somehow I want Hayley Atwell to do the part of Sharon Carter. Kendrick can be Bobbie Morse, or… as I’ve always wanted: JANET VAN DYNE!!! XD
I’m fine if she’s a part of MCU anyway though…
And yes, Evans should definitely do a cameo on Thor 2, cause he had this awesome bromance-hood with Hemsworth, their chemistry off-screen was awesome hahahaha (they joked, teased each other a lot… and Evans even wanted a bicep as big as Hemsworth hahaha)
Personally, I think Cap should stay clear of this Thor sequel. One other hero,Dr. Strange (if confirmed) is enough. I don’t want this riddled with Avengers and superhero nuggets like Iron Man 2. Let it be a classic movie in its own right. The first Thor left me happy but unsatisfied. I want to see more of Thor in his other worldly element and who better to direct this than Alan Taylor of Game of Thrones? For me, I’d go for only 15% of the movie in Midgard. I also think Portman is replaceable as Foster but I’m almost certain she’ll reprise the role. Blockbuster roles don’t come everyday you know
I wouldn’t mind a tip of the hat to Cap and/or a related character – after all, Winter Soldier would be the next film in line. Why not tease it a little with a post credits sting? Granted, I would also like a Hulk joke in Thor 2 (“I wonder how that green giant would do up here in Asgard?” jokes one of the Warriors Three – I’d kill to hear a quote like that)
As for Kendrick? She’s alright. I don’t think the character will be part of the TV show though.
Not Anna please. Bring back the original gorgeous Peggy, but not Anna. No way.
