Thomas Jane Joins Sly Stallone For ‘Headshot’

2 years ago by Sandy Schaefer

Thomas Jane Sylvester Stallone Headshot Thomas Jane Joins Sly Stallone For Headshot

Sylvester Stallone won’t be the only brawny bruiser tearing up the streets in the crime drama Headshot. He’s starring in the film as a professional killer from New Orleans who teams up with a younger NYPD detective – a part that now belongs to Thomas Jane (a.k.a. Frank Castle in the Punisher movie).

Walter Hill – producer of the Alien franchise and director of titles like 48 Hours – will helm the flick. He is also rewriting Alessandro Camon’s (The Messenger) draft of the script, which was based on the graphic novel(s) by Alexis Nolent.

Jane confirmed the news to JoBlo and had the following to say about the dynamic between his and Stallone’s character in Headshot:

“He’s a hitman, I’m a cop, and we’re just opposite in every f**king way, and we need each other to get this job done. And of course I’m like, ‘As soon as this job’s over, I’m going to take you to jail, you know, you’re a killer.’”

The “job” Jane refers to concerns the solving of two brutal murders, which brings the (so to speak) odd couple of professionals together on a quest for justice and revenge. Walter Kramer (Running Scared) was previously (but, obviously, is no longer) set to direct the film, which is expected to begin shooting before Stallone gets to work on The Expendables 2.

Stallone in 'The Expendables'; Jane as 'The Punisher'.

While fans generally appear to have mixed feelings about the 2004 Punisher movie, most seem to think well enough of Jane’s turn as the titular character – and he actually has a pretty solid and diverse resume as an actor, having popped up in flicks ranging from P.T. Anderson’s Magnolia to Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont’s adaptation of The Mist. Stallone, on the other hand, has mostly stuck to playing physically-intimidating brutes with a sensitive streak over the course of his career – be it in the Rocky series, the Rambo franchise, or Judge Dredd icon wink Thomas Jane Joins Sly Stallone For Headshot .

Hill hasn’t been too busy (relatively speaking) as a director over the past fifteen years or so, but he now has two gritty crime tales – Headshot and St. Vincent – tentatively expected to reach theaters in 2012. He has kind of a spotty record as a filmmaker, having called the shots on a number of decent but otherwise pretty forgettable action flicks like Red Heat, Last Man Standing, and Undisputed – so it’s kind of difficult to say how Headshot will turn out.

Jane and Stallone could definitely make for an entertaining mismatched duo, though, so Headshot may prove itself worth the price of admission for that alone.

This is very disappointing. They should have cast someone younger as the NYPD detective like Shia LaBeouf or Penn Badgley. Chad Michael Murray or Chace Crawford would have been good. Perhaps James Lafferty.

yyyyeeeeeaaahhh…no we want tough hardcore MEN to play in parts like these. Not little girls who grow facial hair to fit in parts that they shouldnt play

Well, I enjoyed Undisputed and Jane’s Punisher (and Stallone is a must), so I may check this out.

Punisher vs Rambo? Maybe a comic book company will make it into a graphic novel? After all, Dark Horse made Predator vs Judge Dread… Punisher vs Rambo? Im on board…

Sounds like a good film to see. It’s not exactly Tango & Cash but i wonder what it will be like with one as a hitman & one as a cop. It would be great if Stallone maybe asked Thomas Jane to sign up for Expendables 2 as good guy or bad guy role.

Nice. Walter Hill is a good action director. His movies move from point A to B to C with coherence, unlike Michael Bay.

I was thinking this the Punisher versus Cobra, more than Rambo.

Crime is the disease, I’m the cure. Great tag line.
