The marketing blitz for the upcoming comedy ensemble film This Is the End is getting even whackier. Starring comedian-actor friends Seth Rogen, Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down), Craig Robinson (The Office), Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel (She’s Out of Your League) and James Franco, the film is spoof of real-life, with the actors playing versions of themselves trying to survive an apocalyptic attack.

For April Fools’ Day we got a trailer within a trailer, featuring the This Is the End versions of Seth Rogen and James Franco stuck in their fallout bunker, with little else to do but create a low-rent trailer for Pineapple Express 2. While it was a nice little treat, people (me included) were no doubt waiting to see more of what this movie is actually about – and now they’re getting that, in spades.

Beyond the principal cast, This Is the End (a.k.a., “The ‘Oceans 12′ of comedy flicks”) features some pretty great cameos from other famous types (comedians and beyond), who are put to great use – as clearly evidenced from the new trailer’s horrifically hilarious moment featuring Arrested Development star Michael Cera getting brutally dispatched, or pop star Rihanna falling to her death. However, sure to take the cake is the scene of Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson wielding an ax and beating down Seth Rogen.

In many ways, this trailer finally makes it look like This Is the End could get right what last year’s big comedy team-up, The Watch (also featuring Jonah Hill, btw) got so very wrong. Comedy sci-fi horror flicks are hard to get right, for sure, but Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Superbad, Pineapple Express) seem to have found a way to once again make the genre-blend look good.
