Kirkmania is in full swing at AMC, as it was recently announced the network would once again partner with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman to adapt his newest comic series Thief of Thieves. Following the record-breaking ratings brought in by The Walking Dead for its second season finale, it should come as no surprise the network is interested in continuing its relationship with the prolific writer and creator.

Hailing from Kirkman's Skybound imprint at Image comics, Thief of Thieves - which is collaboratively written by Kirkman and Nick Spencer - tells the story of Conrad Paulson, a master thief known as Redmond, looking to manage his addiction to high-stakes thievery while at the same time attempt to reconnect with his estranged wife and son. In an effort to right the wrongs of his past, Paulson takes to stealing from other thieves, but with the FBI on his trail and a son aching to follow in his father's footsteps, Conrad may have chosen the absolute worst time to stop being Redmond.

The series would see Kirkman and The Walking Dead executive producer David Alpert reunite with Charles 'Chic' Eglee, who had left Dead after season 1 to work on Brian Michael Bendis' Powers adaptation at FX. Since that series is currently being retooled, Eglee was free to jump aboard Thief of Thieves as showrunner.

Kirkman said in a statement regarding the adaptation that both Thieves and Walking Dead are distinctive in that a tale of humanity is at each title's core. He said:

"Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals."

Kirkman also praised the network for its role in making The Walking Dead a phenomenal success, and for spotting the potential in Thief of Thieves.

"AMC recognizes the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry. Their dedication to bringing The Walking Dead to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I'm excited about the potential of Thief of Thieves to reach similar levels of success. Working with AMC has been a tremendously positive experience and I'm looking forward to continuing and strengthening our relationships there and I can't neglect to mention I've been dying to work with Chic again since we wrapped on The Walking Dead Season 1."

Of all the Kirkman created books, Thief of Thieves certainly is the one nearest to reality and ripe for televised consumption. Though attractive properties in their own right, titles like the long-running Invincible or Super Dinosaur have the kind of high-flying, big-budget qualities that make them far more suited to become summer blockbusters. With the success of The Walking Dead and, hopefully, Thief of Thieves, it's only a matter of time before more of Hollywood comes knocking.
