The first images from the set of AMC’s upcoming television series The Walking Dead have surfaced and they feature – you guessed it – zombies!

The Image Comics series is written by Robert Kirkman and has been released monthly since its debut in 2003. While the book is known for its black-and-white visual style, the television series will be in full color.

Frank Darabont, who directed The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, signed with AMC to write and direct a series adaptation of the zombie-survival comic and since then the series was greenlit with a production date set for this month.

The Walking Dead ongoing comic book series tells the story of people having to work together to survive the zombie apocalypse. The protagonist is a Kentucky police officer named Rick Grimes whose family, along with a bunch of other survivors, form a resistance to fend off a world that’s been overrun with zombies.

While the zombie theme may or may not turn you off, the stories of The Walking Dead are memorable and enjoyable not because of the hungry walking corpses, but because of the characters, their relationships and their development while trying to cope with this impossible situation.

Rick Grimes is  being played by Andrew Lincoln (Strike Back) and the cast also includes Jon Bernthal (The Pacific). With Frank Darabont helming the series and it being based off an amazing comic property, I expect big things from The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead was won in a bidding war by AMC last August and it’s been on the fast-track ever since, with a pilot being announced earlier this year. The series is entering production and is set to premiere in October during AMC’s Fearfest event.

  1. My Favorite Monsters! Can’t Wait!

  2. This makes me happy. I love the whole series although it’s slowed down lately.

Love the zombies but hopefully they won’t loose focus of what makes the comic book great, the human characters.

    • I’m sure they won’t, it’s AMC we’re talking about here, they currently have the best show on television (Breaking Bad) which is all character, and Mad Men is the same. I expect nothing but the best out of this one, hopefully they can deliver.

      • Yeah But the fact that it wont be in color i think will make it lose a little of the chararcter of the comics b/c it gave you that bleak and hopeless feel to it that i think gave it that little extra something

  3. I can’t wait. This will be a fantastic show.

  4. Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! I just did a girlish scream and I’m not even ashamed…

The zombies look awesome and if I may geek out for a sec, I love the way the skin is pulled back over the teeth – just like in the comic!

    This is gonna be epic!

  5. They look horrible!! Ill be watching it. Bring on the zombie apocalypse!

  6. talking zombies? you’re obviously kinda brainless yourself.

  7. HA! the second one looks like Jim Carrey!

  8. Never heard of this, I dont read comics but love zombies so im excited and its AMC doing it their known for making good tv. oh and Youran idiot you have obviously not seen the Return Of The Living Dead movies were the zombies talk and understand things, the ambulance scene is my favorite. Bring more paramedics.

    • Wait, so you’ve seen Return of the Living Dead (The best cheesy zombie movie, period.) but you haven’t heard of The Walking Dead?

  9. Yes I have seen Return of the Living Dead 1 and 2, I’ve also seen 4 and 5 but I wish I hadn’t, haven’t seen 3 yet. As I said im not big on comics. I know nothing about comics other than the stuff everyone knows about, the stuff that has been maistreamed like batman. If that means im not A real zombie fan then I guess im not but im still gonna watch this show when it airs. Also i wasn’t calling anyone an idiot that was the name of the poster calling the other person brainless for mentioning talking zombies.
