‘The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Trailer: ‘Hope Survives’

The Walking Dead Season 2 rick The Walking Dead Season 2 Trailer: Hope Survives

The wait is almost over for season 2 of AMC’s breakout hit The Walking Dead, and the promotion machine has gone into overdrive. The new trailer “Hope Survives” lets the characters shine and puts the undead on the back burner.

One of the things that makes The Walking Dead such a unique show is that it isn’t about a zombie apocalypse, it’s about people dealing with a zombie apocalypse. During the six episodes of the first season, most of the time was spent on conversations or transitional scenes – in other words, character development. The zombie attacks, while certainly awesome, are not the central focus of the series.

It appears that the focus on characters and storytelling is intact as the show enters its sophomore year. The theme of a small, tight-knit band of survivors trying to keep a hold on their sanity (in a world literally gone mad) remains, and the stress is getting to Rick Grimes and the people in his charge. After narrowly escaping the CDC in Atlanta, the convoy heads out of the city looking for a safe refuge. It appears that at least in the first few episodes, they aren’t successful in finding it.

Check out  the “Hope Survives” trailer below:

Like the 2011 Comic-Con trailer, the 30-second TV spot quickly cuts between survivors who are increasingly stressed to the point of breaking. Rick’s wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) asks, “Why would we want to live in this world?” And to be fair, when you’re always seconds away from being devoured by thousands of living corpses, it’s easy to see how someone would want to give up – as at least one character did in season 1.

It seems that the drama will come as much from the gang wanting to stay alive (and together) as it does from them achieving it. For a look at a character who didn’t quite make it that far, be sure to check out AMC.tv’s The Walking Dead webisodes focusing on “The Bicycle Girl”, which are scheduled to air on the network’s website starting on October 3rd.

The Walking Dead‘s 90-minute premiere is October 16th at 9PM on AMC.

I don’t think AMC has any first-run deals with the major streaming players, no. But last year they posted the first episode online for free.
