The first crop of new zombie fodder cast members for Season 2 of The Walking Dead includes Supernatural‘s Lauren Cohan and veteran actor Scott Wilson. They’ll be playing farmer Hershel Greene and his daughter Maggie, two pivotal characters from the comic series.

The pair is joined by Pruitt Taylor Vince, who will play the farm’s foreman, Otis. The trio are the only new actors known so far, but with filming going on as we’re writing this, expect more and more announcements and leaks over the next few weeks.

Lauren Cohan is best known to Screen Rant readers as Bela Talbot, the crafty thief specializing in occult objects from Supernatural‘s third season.  She plays Rose the English vampire in a recurring Vampire Diaries role, and had an arc as the sexy/dangerous spy Vivian Volkoff on this past season of Chuck.

Wilson has circled Hollywood for decades without finding a big break, but CSI watchers will recognize him as Catherine Willows’ estranged father. He’s played small roles in everything from Judge Dredd to The Last Samurai, and recently took a bit part on Justified.

Hershel’s farm and the characters therein are a big part of The Walking Dead‘s comic book run. While the first season took a few liberties, it’s safe to assume that a large part of the action for Season 2 will occur in the same farm and prison locales featured in the comics.  If so, Maggie Greene will eventually become a major love interest for (current) survivor Glenn, played by Steven Yeun.

Executive producer Frank Darabont revealed in an interview last week that the fan-favorite character Michonne is scheduled to make an appearance, but not until Season 3 (a  not-so-subtle hint to AMC that renewal would be in everyone’s best interests).  He’s also trying to get famed horror writer Stephen King and his son Joe Hill (writer for the celebrated Locke & Key comics) to pen episodes.

The Walking Dead season 2 premieres October 30, on AMC

  1. I wonder if they will actually have the twins on the TV show, that was pretty disturbing in the books…

  2. He is a bit older then Hershel is in the books. My guess would be no twins based on his age.

  3. Oh no, she was pretty terrible in Supernatural and Chuck. Should slot in well with the already sub par cast.

    • Lauren Cohan was one of the better actresses who appeared on Supernatural, in my opinion. Her character was very interesting; she did it well.

  4. [Quote]She plays Rose the English vampire in a recurring Vampire Diaries role, and had an ark as the sexy/dangerous spy Vivian Volkoff on this past season of Chuck.[Unquote]

PULEEZE! Noah built an **ark** or large boat; his was filled with animal pairs (see also the Ark of the Covenant, a small boat-shaped casket that holds the broken stone tablets that Moses got from Yahweh). An **arc** is a story line that follows an **arc** (as in arch or curve; think rainbow arch) over several episodes or in some cases years of a series! Use a human text editor, not **Spellcheck.**

    • I’m well aware of the difference between an ark and an arc. Since you’ve clearly never, ever made a single-character mistake in any sort of prose, I bow to your incredible editing prowess and have changed the spelling. I hope that the monumental importance of your service to the Internet was not lost on the thousands of people who read this article and didn’t feel moved to correct a tiny mistake.

  5. I don’t know why, but her image here looks like 3D.

  6. I hope season 2 stays closer to the source material than the 1st. Don’t get me wrong I really liked season 1 but the finale left me scratching my head.

  7. now no clue who this chick is because i’ve never seen supernatural…why anyone has is beyond me. scott wilson, however, is an awesome vet character actor with years of credits to his name. check out truman capote’s in cold blood, great performance, but don’t tell robert blake…he’ll kill your @ss. wilson is by far the best actor cast on that show hands down.

  8. As long as they keep Stephen King as far away from this series as possible I will continue to watch and enjoy it.

    • What?? Stephen King is an amazing writer, I think it would be great for him to write an episode or whatnot!!

  9. is she that bad of an actress?

    • hey i thought she did pretty well in Chuck
