Klaus Mikaelson started out as the main antagonist in the successful vampire TV show The Vampire Diaries. Klaus first appeared in the second season and he planned to perform a magic ritual that would unlock the part of him that was a werewolf and would change him into a werewolf-vampire hybrid.
To do that, Klaus tried to kill the main heroine of the show, Elena Gilbert, but things didn't exactly work out the way he planned. Klaus later moved to his own show The Originals but even though his story is now over, there are still a few unanswered questions the fans might have.
What Did Klaus See in Caroline?
Klaus didn't spend all of his free time planning the demise of his enemies but he also found space for love. Of all the people in the Mystic Falls, he fell for Caroline Forbes, Elena's best friend.
Some fans wondered what Klaus saw in Caroline since the two of them were very different. Chances are that Caroline's optimism and kind heart reminded Klaus of the way he and his siblings used to be when they were younger.
Was Klaus Genuinely In Love With Caroline?
Klaus likes to see himself as a romantic when it comes to women but he actually isn't all that good when it comes to relationships, courtesy of his paranoid nature. And he sometimes paints himself in a better light.
That makes one wonder whether he was genuinely in love with Caroline or just wanted to be because he thought it might make him a better person. He did care for her but it was love? Hard to say.
Could Caroline And Klaus Have Worked Together?
Whether Klaus really loved Caroline or not, there's no denying that there was a strong bond between them. But, unfortunately, they weren't meant to be, and maybe it was for the best.
Klaus had changed a lot throughout both of the shows but he was still far from perfect since he had the tendency to sabotage every relationship he was in. Some people aren't just meant for love and it's possible that Klaus was one of them. He and Caroline might have been happy together but chances are it wouldn't work in the long run.
Was Klaus More Powerful Than Elijah?
Klaus and his older brother Elijah were close most of the time and Klaus probably had a better relationship with Elijah than with all of his other siblings. But even despite all that, these two still didn't often get along and fought each other.
Klaus usually prevailed in the fight but was it because he was stronger or because he was simply more merciless than Elijah and unafraid to fight dirty? Elijah was older than Klaus which might make him stronger but once Klaus turned into a hybrid, he was probably superior in strength.
Were Klaus And Stefan Real Friends?
His siblings and occasional romances aside, one of the people closest to Klaus was Stefan Salvatore. But whether they could be considered real friends, that's doubtful.
Klaus certainly believed they were friends since he was disappointed when he came to Mystic Falls and found out that Stefan didn't want to rekindle the friendship they had in the 1920s. But then again, Klaus did compel Stefan, and friends don't do that to their friends.
Why Didn't Klaus' Siblings Leave Him?
When he was still a human, Klaus and his siblings got along well enough. Especially Elijah and Rebekah had the tendency to protect him from their father Mikael who hated Klaus.
The three young people even swore that they'd be together always and forever. But Klaus had betrayed and daggered his siblings multiple times so it's surprising that they never left him for once and for all. If Katherine could run from Klaus for five centuries, his siblings would be able to dodge him as well if they wanted to.
Did Klaus Hate Elena?
When Klaus came to Mystic Falls, he was determined to use Elena for his ritual which meant Elena's death. Elena accepted her fate, as long as those she loved wouldn't be harmed. But Klaus still did his best to torture her mind when he decided to use her aunt Jenna in the ritual as well and killed her.
Maybe Klaus hated Elena because she looked the same as Katherine, the girl who made a fool of him five centuries ago. As it's been established in the show, Klaus isn't the forgiving type.
Why Couldn't Klaus Control Himself Better?
For someone so old, Klaus certainly didn't have a lot of self-control. In fact, he was worse at controlling his impulses than many much younger vampires (Katherine, for example).
Maybe it was because Klaus felt that nothing or no-one could stop him or maybe he was just too spoiled to care about learning to control his worst side. Whatever the reason, Klaus did many heinous things, not because they benefited him too much but simply because he wanted to.
What Did Klaus Do All His Life?
Klaus was well over one thousand years old when he died so he must have seen and experienced many things, no doubt, even if he spent a better part of his life running from his father who wanted to kill him.
There have been a few flashbacks into his past in the shows, for example showing his first meeting with Katherine or his life as a human with his family. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what Klaus did for most of the time he was alive, except learning how to paint.
Could Klaus Have Lived A Happy Life?
Klaus was most likely at his happiest when he was still human, loved by his siblings who did their best to protect him. He's been through a lot of awful things in his life and while that doesn't justify his crimes, it explains them, at least to a certain degree.
The question is - could Klaus have lived a happy life? Perhaps, if his father didn't hate and didn't try to kill him, or if he wasn't denied his true heritage, Klaus's story could have been much different and much less dramatic.
