Do you ever wonder if studios want some movies to fail? How much have you heard about the upcoming filme The Sentinel? Not much, I’ll bet, and that is really wierd considering it stars perennial favorite Michael Douglas and hot-right-now Keifer Sutherland. It’s also a bummer because, especially if you’re a fan of the hit TV show 24, this looks like it’s going to be really good.
I happened to catch the trailer a couple of weeks ago and the first thing that struck me was that Keifer was playing Jack Bauer, but not in a 24 movie. He may be risking typecasting, but I love the guy in the role of Jack Bauer and the opportunity to see him play a similar character on the big screen is one that I won’t miss. Having Michael Douglas co-star is another big bonus. Douglas is almost as universally liked as Gene Hackman. :-)
Anyway, in preparing to write this, I was struck by the fact that there is no official website for the movie, not even within the Fox Movies site. The only poster I found (if it can even be called that) consisted of black letters on a white background with “The Sentinel” written on it. Finally, the only production photo I was able to locate is the one above! I’ve heard of stealth campaigns, but this is ridiculous… Maybe they just believe that word of mouth will be so good that they can save their advertising dollars for convincing people to go see the “Garfield” sequel.
Another wierd thing is that Kim Basinger is credited as being in the film and she isn’t even in the trailer (unless I blinked and missed it).
In any case, check out the trailer here.
The Sentinel opens on April 21st.
