very sad I waited and waited and waited and the studio releasing it should be ashamed for the constant delays, as it wasnt even PLAYING ANYWHERE IN THE WHOLE STATE OF MA…..and its only been out what two weeks? Every theater I looked up didnt have it……those wonderful actors and it BOMBED?????

where the hell did it go?

What gives? Why is this movie not in wide release? I live in a top 30 market and it’s not playing within a 4 hour drive.

They are probably trying to fix some things that were not well liked, based on the very few negative reviews. Most of what I have read says that the film is definitely a contender for the Oscars….It’s about time Viggo wins something. He is amazing!

This reminds of the Wolfman too. Both films have been delayed again and again until reaching a release date a full whole year after they were supposed to be released. Nevertheless I’m still looking forwards to both.

@ JessSayin: That’s whats crazy about McCarthy’s review. If I understand him correctly, he’s saying that the current elements in it, that try to move it away from despair are a disadvantage; Softening the impact, in his eyes, is going the wrong way..??? Go figure, maybe he’s shootin for some more bargain real estate somewhere. Then again the flip side is be true to your message, don’t water it down, that would be selling out. Plenty of debate all around.

The book although beautifully written was as depressing as HELL. They might be trying different ways to shake the despair out of the preview audiences hair prior to wide release.
They HAVE to put more action in this or they’ll lose everyone.

(I remember reading the book and all the while thinking, “How on earth are they going to market this and not have people slashing their wrists during the credits?)

Magna, I’ve seen two negative reviews, two-so-so reviews and probably a dozen positive-reviews to raves since Venice (at least in English – http://www.dpsinfo.com/theroadrumors/reviews.html). Certainly the fact that the most negative review was in Variety may have freaked people at Weinstein (Dimension?).

I wish I didn’t have to wait another five weeks for this movie. I complained last year that I thought releasing a movie like The Road Thanksgiving weekend was DUMB! Given how later it is, there’s little they could fix at this point, except for, maybe, some of the rumored voiceover.

Well perhaps there is another way to look at it. The closer you get to the holiday season the more people will have the time off, and if they show up at the theater it will still be playing. Additionally if the play times are staggered just right, some who might have decided to see something else, but missed their start time, might be tempted to see “The Road” earlier than they had planned. Even seeing it 1ST tier instead of waiting for it to hit second tier, discount theaters. Some of these cineplexes have like 17 theaters to fill.
