The movie that will be packing them in this holiday weekend will undoubtedly be The Muppets, the official big-screen return of the lovable puppets created by Jim Henson.
Early word is that director James Bobin (Flight of the Choncords) and writers Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek) have crafted a Muppet adventure that is 100% faithful to the fun, irreverent spirit of Henson’s characters, while also offering modern audiences a wonderfully non-cynical comedy adventure.
BONUS: Jason Segel was the host of SNL recently, and of course he used the opportunity to promote The Muppets. Not to make Segel out to be a shameless promoter or anything – the man truly does has genuine love for these characters, and has been the driving force behind getting this movie made. Now Disney, on the other hand, knows a thing or two about shameless promotion. But I digress.

Personally, I can’t wait to be in the theater laughing and signing along with The Muppets again (hopefully with some of my younger family members in tow). It was costing me an arm and a leg to fly all the way down to Disney MGM Studios every time I wanted to a see a big-screen Muppet show. Getting the same warm feeling from within the theater next door to me will be a nice gift to kick off this holiday season.
The Muppets are officially in theaters starting on November 23, 2011.
