The Munsters remake: Another nail in the coffin

The MunstersSigh.

The Wayans brothers are going to be helming a remake of the beloved 60′s TV show “The Munsters”. According to the report, the movie “will stay true to the original characters, but will place them in a contemporary setting.”

“True to the original characters”…. right.

Here’s my prediction:

- It will of course be PG and not G rated due to some “adult humour”.

- There will be double entendres and other borderline sexually related dialogue and revealing outfits for Marilyn and and Lily.

- Lots of low brow humor.

- I will not be taking my daughter to see it.

I’m sure the studio behind the live action Scooby-Doo movies thought that those were “true to the original” as well. I think my daughter and I will stick with “TV Land” on my big screen instead of bothering with new and updated versions of old TV shows, since filmmakers today seem to be incapable of making anything funny without toilet and/or adult humor.

  1. Unbelievable… with the Wayans brothers involved, I’m guessing it will be at least PG-13. If Marilyn does a nude scene, it might even be an R. The humor will almost certainly never rise above the level of bathroom level. I doubt it will even be that funny. White Chicks did okay at the box office (around $70 million), but that hardly made it a runaway hit. With such lukewarm results, I have to wonder why the Wayans brothers are such a hot property. (Maybe they’re not if this is the only work they can get.)

Keenen Ivory Wayans will always have my respect for creating In Living Color, my all-time favorite TV show. Sadly, his career progression since then has been mostly downhill, with the exception of the original Scary Movie. What kind of legacy is that? Mo’ money, indeed.

  2. Ah, remember the good old days, when people came up with, like, original ideas for movies.

But I have to agree – never cared for the Munsters, and although “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka” is a classic, the name Wayans is always a red flag for me.

  3. Really…. what DID some writers do before there were television shows to mine for material? ;-)

  4. Well if anyone is doing a remake of “the MUNSTERS” and since I have lived a life of ridicule over my last name “MUNSTERS” I would love to be part of it. Yes my name is Darren Munsters and all my life I have been called EDDIE! All my life I have received endless coments about my last name so please reply.
    Darren Munsters

  5. Well Darren, I don’t really know what I can do for you.

  6. What Stae did they live in?

  7. What State did they live in?

  8. Um, I don’t know that it was ever mentioned on the show. I would imagine that it was in California, but that’s just a guess.
