‘The Mechanic’ Trailer

 The Mechanic Trailer

Jason Statham is adding yet another “many British action-hero” role to his resume, with a remake of The Mechanic. Stepping into the shoes of the legendary Charles Bronson, Statham plays a veteran hitman who decides to take on an apprentice so he can retire knowing his “good work” is still being carried out.

Joining Statham is Ben Foster (playing said apprentice) and Donald Sutherland (playing Foster’s father and Statham’s handler). The film is being directed by Simon West, whose films will probably be familiar to fans of brainless action flicks (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider).

Today we have the first ever trailer for The Mechanic. The movie is still in the filming stages but this is an early teaser to wet our appetites. Take a look, thanks to Trailer Addict (it could be considered to be SPOILERIFIC, although only slightly):

As I said awhile back, Statham may not be a match for Charles Bronson (but let’s face it, who is?). However, they certainly could have done a lot worse as far as actors for this remake. Ben Foster is building a great career for himself: he has been on my radar ever since I first saw him in the Bruce Willis thriller Hostage and in other projects like HBO’s Six Feet Under and the Western 3:10 To Yuma (he nearly stole the show from Russell Crowe and Christian Bale).

Although the trailer may give away a bit too much (unless the betrayal of Foster’s character becomes a part of the story very early on), it looks like mindless fun that mixes Leon: The Professional and The Transporter movies.

What do you think of The Mechanic trailer?

The film has a release date of December 15th, 2010.

  1. This isn't a trailer for The Mechanic. It's the trailer for Transporter 4! The only difference here is that he's got a male sidekick.

Crank is a much better film series.

  2. Looks like another fun, shoot-em action film for Statham. I'm in.

  3. Crank 2 was a mess and Transporter turned to crap after the first one.

This movie looks much deeper. Definitely more to it than just a different “sidekick”.

  4. Whoa! This movie was not on my radar but now is. Thanks for the trailer.

Ben Foster is AMAZING (even in crappy roles *cough Pandorum).

The fights here look brutal and well choreographed.

    I can't wait.

  5. i liked crank 2.. i thought it was much the same than the first except much crazier! but i really enjoyed them both!
looks to be another good action flick:) his movies may not be good in every way, but the action is damn nice!

  6. Hell no Crank is not a better film series. Crank is 3 day old garbage with rotten fish heads at best.

  7. Im a huge Jason Statham fan. Looks like another fun movie that i can drool at haha. Ben Foster seems good as a psycho villain!

  8. I have been a huge fan of ben foster since Six Feet Under. And he was a bonified badass in 310 to Yuma.Jason Statham is always good for tough guy movies a'la Chuck Norris.I myself feel the crank movies are a preferred taste. They are a mixture of Grand Theft Auto,Japanese Animes and grindhouse movies. The over the top action/violence and crude comedic value, plus the exaggerated situations to keep him(Jason Statham) alive always make for awesome entertainment.cant wait to see The Mechanic. However,no one comes close to Mr Bronson.lol

  9. Hey, let's face it, it's Statham. When does he do a bad film. OK, the Director may not have the bet films under his belt, but anything that merges Transporter with The Professional (2 excellent films) – is bound to be good for ol' mindless fun and action… His apprentice is going to steal this show like he did in 3:10 to Yuma !

  10. I suppose comparisons to the original will be inevitable and someone will end up rereleasing the original. Since they just had to go and remake it, I hope they at least change the ending. That might make it worth watching just to see how they get there…

  11. A fun Movie fact: Ben Foster is the goofy kid from Disneys teen show Flash forward in the mid 90's. He was also the Strange outsider in 30 Days of Night. Impressive to watch Ben foster go from a goofy Disney kid to a bon-a-fide grade A actor.
