As we approach The Masked Singer group C championships and the competition grows fierce for the three finalist spots, the only thing more heated is the debates about who is behind those masks. Who is Astronaut and what clues prove his identity?

Fans started out with lots of guesses as to who Astronaut was before he ever even performed. Initial guesses like Lance Bass were dismissed once fans got to hear the initial promo clip of Astronaut singing. That is when fans of country artist Hunter Hayes started commenting that it sounded very much like him. The height of Astronaut when viewers got to see him stand next to host Nick Cannon seemed to back that up. This week, however, some of the clues have started to make people second guess that prediction. Upon deeper examination, it is clear that the clues do still line up with Hayes as well as former clues have.

This week, steering clear of the country music genre yet again Astronaut sang "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder. At the end of the clue package, Astronaut stated he was going to be singing a song by a dear friend. While the friendship between the young country music star and the music legend might surprise some, it won't come as a surprise to fans of Dancing with the Stars. Back in 2013, the two performed together on the show. This reunion was not their first time performing together. Astronaut spoke of being a bright star young who overreached and got burned leaving him feeling lonely and isolated. This is most likely referring to his performance in Cleveland in 2016 when he sang the national anthem for the World Series. It was met with a lot of backlash by both press and fans. He has spoken publicly about how the many negative comments about him took a toll on his self-esteem.

The clue that threw most people was when he said he wandered for what felt like 500 days until he used sign language to find his own voice. This led fans and reporters to try and find evidence of the young country star's ability to speak sign language. The problem is that clues on The Masked Singer are never that direct. In the same package, they showed a French horn which clearly was meant to reference that Hayes both speaks and performs in French as well as English, not that he plays the French horn. Well, not exactly 500 days; a few years after that World Series performance, Hayes released "One Shot." A PSA series was later released based on that song which helped viewers recognize the signs of being buzzed. It was humorous but contained a serious message that buzzed driving is drunk driving.

The last clue to explain from this week was a bunch of balloons shown while he was talking about being lonely. Lyrics from his song "Everybody's Got Somebody But Me," say "Seems like everyone around me is on their honeymoon. I'd love to take a pin to a heart-shaped balloon." Previously, we have been able to link other clues to the young singer. Multiple references to his young start seem appropriate as Hayes began his career as a toddler. The previous clue package showed a skeleton foot and Hayes did a duet with Victoria Justice for the remake of Footloose.

Still, one of the strongest clues didn't come from either clue package but from the list of impressive stats Cannon gave about group C. Among them was the fact that one member of group C was a Guinness World Record holder. This is not common among celebrities like many of the other awards mentioned, but Hayes does in fact hold such a record. He holds a Guinness world record for playing a record number of shows in 24 hours, a record previously held by The Flaming Lips. With all this evidence, it seems incredibly unlikely Astronaut can be anyone other than Hunter Hayes.
