Earlier this month we posted the first theatrical trailer for The Last Airbender, the feature film adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The trailer kicked all sorts of ass, and that’s coming from someone who’d barely even heard of the cartoon before the movie was announced.

The Last Airbender (they dropped the “Avatar” part because of a certain other recent blockbuster…) stars Noah Ringer as Aang, a successor to a long line of “Avatars,” who must put aside his irresponsible ways and stop the war-mongering Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

For all you fan of the series out there, you can look forward to some of your beloved characters being brought to life by actors like Dev Patel (Zuko), Nicola Peltz (Katara), Jackson Rathbone (Sokka) and Shaun Toub (Uncle Iroh). The film comes to us courtesy of The Sixth Sense director, M. Night Shyamalan.

As I said, I’m unfamiliar with The Last Airbender animated series but I have to say Shyamalan’s film version looks pretty great. The special effects look wonderful and Ringer as the lead character of Aang is someone I wouldn’t want to meet down a dark alley at night!

This is a real departure for Shyamalan, considering all he’s done before is supernatural thrillers with twist endings (alright, maybe The Happening didn’t have much of an ending icon razz Last Airbender TV Spot #2 ). But I’m happy to see him branch out and try something new and it looks like he’s nailed the attempt. Not that I think he’ll have trouble topping The Happening

Thoughts on the latest TV spot for The Last Airbender?

The Last Airbender hits theaters on July 2nd, 2010 in the U.S. and on August 13th, 2010 in the UK.

  1. Go back to your cave troll. We haven't even seen any footage of their acting yet and the martial arts/ special effects look pretty damn good to me.

  2. Sweeping generalization if I ever saw one.

  3. Don't forget momo!

  4. I don't know… all the trailers have just left me with a big fat “Meh.” Perhaps the slo-mo action sequences are getting tired. I haven't seen the series, either, so I'm strictly basing my observation as a total outsider.

  5. Seriously the movie is more than 4 months away!
We can't really know NOW what the movie would be like.
Anyway for fellow fans of the series, cheers; but don't get your hopes up TOO high, the movie can't realistically match the original work!
All the same this one is right on top of my 'movies to watch this year' list!!!

  6. Cant't wait to watch “The Last Airbender”. business directory |jobs|latex mattress
