Paramount Pictures has just released the first full theatrical trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. Forget about the teaser trailer and Super Bowl ad, this theatrical trailer is 1:55 of awesome air, water, earth and fire bending not to mention appearances by Uncle Iroh, Lord Ozai and Princess Yue of the Northern Water tribe.

Do I know way too much about something based on a Nickelodeon children’s cartoon? You bet! But there’s a good reason; Avatar: The Last Airbender may have been on a children’s television network, but the storytelling, art style and top notch action scenes surely were made for adults to enjoy. Right?

With this trailer we finally get a full look at what Shyamalan has in store for us this July and from the looks of it, this film is not only going to be amazing, but its finally going to return M. Night back to his former glory as a top-notch director and storyteller.

Enough of me blabbing, watch the trailer and see what I mean…

Maybe it’s because I’m speaking as someone that’s a fan of the original series, but this film looks wonderful all around. The set pieces are beautiful, the bending is better than what I could have pictured in my head. Sure, we don’t get the quick glimpse of Appa that we had the Super Bowl ad, but you can  take a look at the Last Airbender toys to see what he’s going to look like.

It was totally worth waiting an extra couple months for them to fine-tune the CGI. This trailer has given me everything that I could have wanted and more. I have no qualms about saying that The Last Airbender is now my no. 1 must-see film of 2010…. And yes, I’m including Iron Man 2.

…that’s saying a lot.

What do you think of the trailer? Do you think it’s as good as I thought it was? Is M. Night going to rise back to the top or is this just going to be another “plants kill people” movie?

The Last Airbender is set to be released in theaters nationwide on July 2.
