The second trailer for The Last Airbender has just been released, and we have it here for you to check out.

The first Last Airbender trailer premiered last month (after being delayed) to much fanfare. Even as someone who’s barely heard of the original cartoon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, I found the trailer thrilling, with a visual flair that I imagine will look completely awesome on the big-screen.

Now here’s the great second trailer for The Last Airbender, courtesy of First Showing:

As First Showing points out, this is basically just an extension of the first trailer but there’s a few new pieces of footage in there if you look for them. Most notably, we see the main character, Aang, using a flying device that I’m sure fans of the cartoon will tell you all about. And, if I’m not mistaken, this is also the first time we hear Aang speak.

As someone not familiar with the cartoon, one of the things I’m most curious about with this movie is how director M. Night Shyamalan will fare working out of his usual comfort zone. He’s made his name with supernatural thriller/horrors like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs (let’s just forget Lady in the Water and The Happening exist, shall we?) but with The Last Airbender, not only is he working in a completely new genre but also with a bigger budget than he’s ever had before.

By the looks of the trailer, he’s done an awesome job and might have found a new direction for himself as a filmmaker.

What do you think of the new Last Airbender trailer? Do you think Shyamalan should make more big-budget films after this, instead of going back to familiar ground?

The Last Airbender opens in theaters on July 2nd, 2010.

  1. Not much difference from the last one. I think it looks GREAT and can’t wait to see it. Got hooked on the animated show because of the great stories, animation etc, so I am glad to see this on the Big Screen. Trailers make it look great, so I am wishing Night the best..

  2. but there’s a few new pieces of footage in there

You mean there are a few old pieces. The rest is new. It appears to be about 85% new.

Looks great. Little darkish but meh I will just chalk that up to nighttime.

  3. Nope, it's mostly the same as the first trailer – http://screenrant.com/the-last-airbender-traile

  4. Man o man, Im totally booked to go and see this now

  5. So is this the first time we've heard Aang's voice (other than a scream, maybe)?
Not sure if I'm sold on it.. Sounds kinda older than I was imagining… I don't know. I'll wait til I here more to decide.

  6. bah will have to check that one at home as it says no longer available when at work. Just seems there is a lot longer new stuff in this one. Yes there are a few “clips” of the old one but time for time I think it is more new.

Yet im old and I see things different. Will let you know when I compare the two… :D

  7. I'm not sure if Jackson Rathbone will be able to pull off Sokka.

  8. This is just so awesome !!! wait till you guys see Appa , the flying Bison and I'm pretty sure that he will be there in the trailer attached to Ironman 2

  9. Ooof, he didn't say any more than five words, but I'll be damned if they didn't grate my brain like cheese. Very dissimilar to the cartoon voice.

  10. “Very dissimilar to the cartoon voice.”

duh. I suppose they should have used the kid that voiced the cartoon? No, because then people would say man this kid can't fight like the cartoon. Some people are never happy.

  11. ive liked all his films

  12. I'm pretty sure there's no question he can't. Besides being terribly disappointed at pretty much all the casting, in typical fashion Shyamalan has made this look very dark.

Not at all pleased, as a great fan of the series.

  13. The trailer looks good.
I don't like that Aang has symbols on him. In the cartoon he had an arrow that was all over his body. A solid arrow at that.

They've got the dramatic stuff with Katara and Aang down.

Did Zuko have the scar? I didn't see it.

Oh and where is Azula the insane one?

  14. looks heaps good, this is how anime/manga/cartoon adaptations should be done.
but it is just a trailer, i just hope the actual movie lives up to its hype

  15. azula wasnt in the first season (unless you count the cliff hanger at the end of the last episode of the season) which this movie is based off of.

  16. Im liking this so far. the movie looks excellent. The only thing Im really worried about is that it doesnt look like the movie isnt going to stay true to Aangs laid back disposition and Sakka's comedy relief. that might be a problem for me as that was what I loved about those characters. Zuko, Iroh, and Katara are looking good though.

  17. I was Blown away i have to say this will make M. Night BIG and will take him out of the dark where he's been for the last 5 years due to those Awful last 2 movies he's done. I'm so ready for this to come out cant wait.

  18. You LIKED The Happening and Lady in the Water?

    What ARE you?

  19. I agree with you. I'm worried as well about the lack of humor. I loved the series and watched it religiously with my now 10 year old son. We will be disappointed if it's left out. My son and I believe this was a big part of the show. Mr. Ross Miller if you haven't watched the cartoon you REALLY REALLY NEED TO! We have all the DVDs and go back and watch them from time to time.

  20. The same sort of bizarre hybrid monster as I. Lady In The Water was fascinating to me. Though I'm a writer, so I tapped into the alternate fairy tale…

  21. M. Night Shyamalan has already state that his going to make Sokka's alot more serious than his cartoon counterpart to make the movie fit that of an older crowd. Because Sokka's comic relief was for the children who watched the cartoon.

  22. when begins the second part?
