Peter Jackson's Third Production Diary from The Hobbit

Principal photography on Peter Jackson's two-part adaptation of The Hobbit will recommence in about a month and a half, but that doesn't mean the filmmaker is off on vacation - or has forgotten about keeping fans updated on his new Tolkien literature adaptation.

Jackson has posted a second video blog from the Hobbit set that offers fans a behind-the-scenes update on the project, to go with the recently-released images of dwarf siblings and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in the film(s).

While the first half of this video is composed primarily of interviews with Hobbit cast and crew members talking about how they'll be spending the shooting break, the (more interesting) second half chronicles the efforts of Jackson and Co. to scout-out additional shooting locations around New Zealand.

Between the brief glimpses of the practical Hobbit sets (including the goblin tunnels, where a young Bilbo first encounters the creature Gollum) and the intimate footage of Jackson's production team as they soar over the majestic New Zealand landscape via helicopters, this new Hobbit video is well worth the ten minutes it'll take you to watch it.

Check it out (via Jackson on Facebook) below:

Besides it just being cool on Jackson's part to keep fans updated on the progress of The Hobbit and provide them with an up-close-and-personal look at its production, there's something quite fun about watching the two films being literally constructed before our eyes. If you're like us here at Screen Rant, then getting to see the technical side of things (the green screens, camera crane/jib setups, and Andy Serkis fitted up in his motion-capture gear to portray Gollum/Smeagol) is all the more fascinating and exciting to watch unfold in real-time.

These video blogs also offer a good reminder to fans about all the dedication and hard work that is being poured into these Hobbit movies - with the intention of providing us another enjoyable adventure to Middle-Earth. That's all the more comforting a sign that these films can actually hold their own against the impressive accomplishment that was Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.
