You make it sound as if it will now be somehow diminished by adding in the source material. I think Jackson is doing just the opposite and elevating this simple children’s tale into something more epic and on an equal footing with LotR. The Hobbit is just a very focused part of a much larger picture and all Jackson is doing is broadening the focus a bit.

It would be akin to doing LotR in the opposite direction by only focusing on Sam and Frodo’s journey. We would never know what happened to Gandalf, never get to see the battle for Helm’s Deep or Minas Tirith and not know the fate of the rest of the fellowship. Now wouldn’t that have been a shame?

I mean wouldn’t you like to know where that mysterious Dwarven map came from? What about where Gandalf disappeared to midway through the book or what Sauron was up to and how he arrived at Mordor? It’s not as if nothing else was going on in Middle Earth at the time of this little adventure so we will just learn a little more about the surrounding story. I’m personally not seeing how this will be a bad thing.

I guess if you want to be exact though, the name of the movie should be; The Hobbit and The Quest of Erebor.

You must understand that the Hobbit is a very different story than the LOTR trilogy. Its honestly more of a kids book. Its more adventure, less action. Thats not to say that the action isn’t epic when it shows up. In this book they aren’t on some important quest to save middle earth, they are on a journey to get rich… the lore of middle earth is explored more in this book and there is a lot more room for creativity I believe. Thats why I was so on board with del Toro directing because I know he has such a great imagination. Of course I’m happy with Peter Jackson the LOTR movies wouldn’t be possible without him but Del Toro would maybe make it a bit darker in tone than Jackson. Regardless these movies will be cutting edge as far as CGI its almost 10 years after LOTR and technology has come a longg way. Seeing Mountain Giants, Goblins, Trolls, and a Dragon in glorious Imax 3d couldn’t get much better.

If you don’t understand how all these LotR characters can be integrated into the Hobbit I would suggest doing some digging before just dismissing it out of hand. ;)

The only thing I am not on board with is the whole thing being told as a story like the Princess Bride. Seems like a ploy simply to have Frodo appear in the films.

And yeah…….WHAT about Hugo Weaving???? It would be sad that the only person not reprising his role is Elrond.

The Hobbit movies had to flow smoothly into the LoTR trilogy to give the movie audience a sense of when and who. Including the characters from the LoTR movies I’m sure is only intended to assist in this and nothing more.

I would have been worried if Peter Jackson wasn’t at the helm, but as long as he is I won’t be. I don’t have expectations that the Hobbit movies will be any better than the LoTR movies – especially since the books weren’t – but I do expect a fun couple of movies and I’m sure that will be what we get.

But including the LOTR characters just stunted most of my interest in seeing it, right now I have to wait for a trailer.

But PJ is more than welcome to prove me wrong.

Still no word on Weaving returning? And its understandable that it costs so much is cause its so different from the trilogy
