It would be dumb if they wait.You can't say your going to do something then not do it.But i agree with the rest of you,we big lord of the rings fans don't need to get worried until something official is announced.

I say give them the time they need to do it right. We don’t want some slip shod Hobbit adaptation. Honestly, after the pile they made off of LOTR I’m astonished that Hollywood hasn’t rushed to get any and all possible Tolkien projects greenlit and in the can. I would love to see just about anything LOTR related, but not if it isn’t done with the care that was put into LOTR.

Heard this news the other day, and it’s seriously upsetting, but not surprising if it’s true.

A delay of three months into production means they might need another few months to get everything ready in post. They’re not going to want to rush these things. Unfortunately, for the films to be on the radar for Oscar season (as well as for financial reasons), they desperately want to keep their December releases, where they have little competition from other blockbusters and will be fresh in the minds of the academy. So instead of releasing them in the summer, they’ll wait ’til the Winter.

Your sense of schedule is off, I think. If the film starts shooting in July, it will be ~370 shooting days (not 370 days) before principal photography is complete. So expect it to finish shooting in Fall 2011, not July. Even taking into account editing and vfx work done during principal photography, there’s quite a bit of editing that takes place afterwards, and considering the vast amount of visual effects needed for a film of this size, all of post-production will need more than just a few months to complete work on the first film. I think that’s why the rumored 2012 release for film #1 has piggybacked the news of a summer 2011 start date.

The Hobbit is high on my most anticipated movies list, and if it takes another 6 months or so to get it right, I am ok with that. I fully expect these films to be just as epic as the LOTR trilogy. I also wonder, if this is true, is if they want to release part 1 in the summer and part 2 at Christmas? That would be some huge box office gross in one year, would it not?

I heard this the other day, lets just wait for some official word from the studio before everyone starts panicking. I also wonder if the release date has something to do with a summer release date instead of winter.

I hope not because I associate LOTR with winter times.

Personally, I’d rather wait and have the film done properly than have it rushed.

However, I’m not putting any stock into this, or any other Hobbit-related news, until I hear from Peter or Guillermo.
